Colossyan already does what most AI video tools leave out. It puts questions inside the video, builds courses, and exports SCORM from its Professional plan. Teams look elsewhere because of the limits around that, which are monthly caps on exports and interactive videos, a new package for every change, and several features reserved for Enterprise. Which alternative fits depends on which of those limits you hit.
Key takeaways
- A change means a new package. Colossyan’s SCORM page lists dynamic SCORM, which pushes edits to the LMS with no re-export, as “coming next.” Today, an edit means you regenerate the video and export a new package.
- The Professional plan runs on monthly caps. Colossyan’s plans page lists 5 SCORM exports a month, 15 interactive videos a month, 20 auto translations a month, and 3 editor seats on Professional.
- Colossyan’s own pages disagree on three figures. The plans page lists 300+ stock avatars, and its avatar conversation page lists 200+. The plans page lists 120+ languages, and its training video landing page lists 100+. Its Vyond comparison page lists xAPI as included, while the SCORM page lists it as coming next.
- Interactive training on the free plan is where Colossyan leads. Its free Starter plan includes 10 interactive videos a month and course creation, and multi-avatar conversation scenes work on every plan.
Colossyan is an AI video and course platform, and three things push training teams to replace it
Colossyan sells two connected products. Colossyan Video, listed on G2 as Colossyan Creator, builds avatar video with interactive questions and branching. Colossyan Learn turns a document, brief, or topic into a course with video lessons, quizzes, and assessments, then exports a SCORM package for your LMS.
Every plan includes 300+ stock avatars and 700+ voices, per the plans page. Colossyan also offers Instant Avatars made from real team members, and real-time Conversational Avatars for roleplay and Q&A on Enterprise.
Three reasons come up repeatedly when L&D teams start looking elsewhere.
The caps arrive before the contract does. Professional caps SCORM exports at 5 a month for videos and 5 for courses, interactive videos at 15, auto translations at 20, and editors at 3. A team that publishes a course a week runs into the export limit within a month.
Every edit means a new export. Colossyan’s own SCORM authoring page describes the update as “edit the lesson, regenerate that video, export a new package.” Colossyan Learn courses export as SCORM 1.2 only, with SCORM 2004 for Learn also listed as coming next.
Several features sit on Enterprise. Conversational avatars, video analytics, team permissions, custom SSO, and EU or US data residency all sit on Enterprise, alongside unlimited exports.
Budgets keep many teams on the capped plan. Fosway Group’s Digital Learning Realities research 2025 found L&D spend static at best and headcount under pressure. A static budget is exactly what keeps a team on Professional, with 5 exports a month, when its output has outgrown them.
We cover the two-product comparison in our Easygenerator and Colossyan head-to-head. We compare avatar tools in our AI avatar video software article, interactive video in our interactive video software comparison, and presentation tools in our video presentation software article.
How we evaluated Colossyan alternatives
We scored each tool on four criteria. The same four criteria run through the comparison table and the sub-headings inside every entry below.
Presenter and avatar range. Who or what presents the video, from an AI avatar or custom avatar to a real person or an animated character, and how much choice you have.
Training output and LMS delivery. Whether questions sit inside the training, what reaches your LMS through SCORM or Experience API (xAPI), and on which plan.
Update path. What a change costs, including whether you edit without a new production cycle and whether the update reaches the LMS without a new package.
Localization at scale. How many languages the tool supports, on which plan, and what travels with a translation. We compare translation tools in depth in our video translation software article.
How we graded the two deciding criteria
The High, Medium, and Low bands in the table are ours, and here is what earns each one.
For training output, High means questions sit inside the training and SCORM export is available on a plan a team can buy without an enterprise contract. Medium means SCORM or quizzes exist, but only on an enterprise or agency contract, or the package cannot carry a question. None found means we found no SCORM or xAPI export in the vendor’s published material.
For update path, High means you edit without a new production cycle and the change reaches the LMS in place. Medium means one of the two. Low means every change needs a new production and a new upload.
A High band is not automatically better for every buyer. A team that only shares video by link gains nothing from a High training score, and a team that rarely updates content gains little from a High update score. Read each column against your actual requirements.
Ownership disclosure
Easygenerator is our own product, and we publish this article. We reviewed the other seven tools from their public G2 profiles and their own published plan, product, and help center pages, all accessed on October 1, 2026.
What we deliberately did not score
We did not score price. Vendors in this category charge by seat, by credit, by video minute, or by plan tier, and any figure we printed would be out of date before you read it. Check each vendor directly.
We did not score avatar realism against a fixed benchmark, because we have not tested it under controlled conditions. We report what vendors publish and what reviewers say.
We also did not use any vendor’s competitor comparison pages as evidence about a third party. Where we cite a vendor, we cite what they publish about their own product.
We gave full entries to five tools and short entries to two more. Several tools you may have seen on other lists are out, and here is why.
- Pictory and invideo appear in our Synthesia alternatives comparison
- AKOOL and VEED appear in our HeyGen alternatives comparison
- D-ID and Elai.io focus on avatar generation, and we found no documented SCORM export for either
- Screen recorders such as Loom and Descript record real footage, and we cover them in our screen recording software comparison
- Course authoring suites without avatar video solve a different problem, and we cover them in our SCORM authoring tools comparison
- Free and open-source tools are out, because the enterprise buyers this article is written for cannot run compliance training on unsupported software
Which part of Colossyan you are replacing
Colossyan covers video, courses, and LMS delivery in one tool, so “alternative” means different things to different buyers. Match your situation to one of these three groups before you read any entry.

All G2 ratings and review counts come from each tool’s G2 product profile, verified on October 1, 2026. Counts move as reviews are added, so pages we published earlier may show different figures. Colossyan appears on G2 as Colossyan Creator, and DeepBrain AI’s product appears as AI Studios. Where Colossyan’s own pages state two different figures, the table shows the plans page figure first and the other in brackets. We scored the two short entries on fewer criteria than the full entries, so “Not graded” means we did not assess that column, not that the tool lacks the feature.
What a change and a cap cost, tool by tool
This is the table that decides most shortlists for teams leaving Colossyan, so it gets its own section. Every entry reflects each vendor’s own published documentation on October 1, 2026.
| Tool | SCORM on a mid-tier plan | An edit reaches the LMS without a new package | SCORM versions and xAPI |
|---|---|---|---|
| Easygenerator | Every plan, no monthly export cap | Yes, through dynamic SCORM | Manual and dynamic SCORM, plus xAPI |
| Mindsmith | Every tier, including free | Yes, through dynamic modules | SCORM on every tier, xAPI on Enterprise |
| HeyGen | Business | Yes, through Auto-SCORM on Business | SCORM 1.2 and 2004, xAPI on Business |
| Colossyan | Professional, 5 exports a month | No, dynamic SCORM is listed as coming next | SCORM 1.2 and 2004 from Video, SCORM 1.2 from Learn, xAPI listed as coming next |
| Synthesia | Enterprise only | Yes, a republish updates the LMS, on Enterprise | SCORM 1.2 and 2004 |
| AI Studios | Enterprise only | Not documented | SCORM 1.2 and 2004 |
The table makes two things visible that a feature list does not. Colossyan’s SCORM arrives earlier than most, and its gap is the second column. And only three tools here, Easygenerator, Mindsmith, and HeyGen, combine in-place updates with a plan below an enterprise contract.
Update training in the LMS without a new package or an export cap
1. Easygenerator
Easygenerator is a cloud e-learning authoring tool that helps organizations create company-tailored training at scale. EasyVideo is its AI video product, available as a powerful addition to the suite.
Easygenerator answers the Colossyan question from the publishing end. Both tools build video and courses together. The difference shows up after you publish, when Easygenerator updates the course where learners already see it.
Presenter and avatar range
EasyVideo includes 155+ AI avatars, AI narration, and scene templates with your branding applied. Authors can describe the presenter they need and generate a custom AI avatar, then save it to My avatars for reuse. Screen and camera recording sit inside the editor, so a real person can present too. Upload a PowerPoint deck in any language, and each slide becomes a scene with a drafted script.
Training output and LMS delivery
High. Quizzes, fill-in-the-blank questions, and true or false checks sit in the same course as the video. Publishing covers manual SCORM, dynamic SCORM, and xAPI, plus native integrations with Cornerstone and LearnUpon, on every plan with no monthly export cap. Courses published as SCORM 2004 send question-level results to your LMS.
For roleplay practice, EasyCoach is available as a powerful addition to the suite. EasyCoach roleplays run in 70+ languages.
Update path
High. You update a single scene in a longer video, and the AI voiceover regenerates narration from an edited script. Dynamic SCORM pushes the change into the LMS with no re-upload. Since September 2026, every video lives in the EasyVideo Workspace, so one video can sit in several courses. Since July 2026, co-authors edit the same video in real time.
Localization at scale
One step produces a video in 75 languages, with translated script and voice. Since October 2026, all language versions share one player and one embed code. Learners switch language in the player, and inside an Easygenerator course the video plays in the course language.
Standout features
- Dynamic SCORM, so a published course updates in the LMS in place
- No monthly cap on SCORM publishing
- One multilingual player for every language version
- Custom AI avatars saved to My avatars
- Real-time co-authoring with scene locking
Pros
- In-place LMS updates and question-level results on every plan
- Subject-matter experts produce publishable training without editing skills
- No per-month limits on publishing or translation inside the video workflow
- Questions, video, and learning analytics sit in one course, for measurable learning outcomes
Cons
- 155+ stock avatars against Colossyan’s 300+
- Custom avatars are fictional presenters, with no avatars of real employees
- EasyVideo and EasyCoach come as additions to the suite and are not part of the core authoring license
Best for
- Enterprises of 1,000 employees and up with distributed content creation
- L&D teams that publish and update courses every week
- Global teams that maintain one video in many languages
- Training that pairs video with questions and practice
G2 rating. 4.7 out of 5 from 178 reviews.
The number of people who can build and update training matters more than avatar count once training scales. Morningstar grew training coverage from 5,200 to 11,500 employees across 34 countries, and more than 400 internal experts now build content in place of a central design team. Kevin Seifert, Global Head of Learning and Development at Morningstar, said, “You can put Easygenerator in someone’s hands, and they can start building courses right away.” Read the full Morningstar customer story.
2. Mindsmith
Mindsmith is an AI course authoring tool that builds interactive lessons from a prompt, a document, or an uploaded recording, with dynamic SCORM on every tier.
Mindsmith is the closest match for a team that likes Colossyan Learn but wants in-place updates and no export count. It leads with the course, and video sits inside it.
Presenter and avatar range
Mindsmith’s video page lists 30+ AI avatars, photo-based and animated, with narration from 100+ ElevenLabs voices. Its agent can watch an uploaded recording, transcribe it, and rebuild it as a lesson with questions and branching.
Training output and LMS delivery
High. Mindsmith’s plans page lists link, embed, and SCORM sharing on the free tier, and dynamic modules published as SCORM on every tier, with xAPI on Enterprise.
Update path
High. Dynamic modules update in place, so an edit reaches the LMS without a new package.
Localization at scale
The plans page lists multi-language module support on Enterprise, and it sells AI conversation sessions for voice or text roleplay as an optional extra.
Standout features
- Dynamic SCORM on every tier, including free
- Recordings rebuilt as lessons with questions and branching
- 30+ AI avatars and 100+ ElevenLabs voices
- AI conversation sessions for roleplay, sold as an optional extra
Pros
- In-place updates without an enterprise contract
- A free tier that already publishes to an LMS
- Built around the course, with video inside it
Cons
- Only 23 G2 reviews, so the evidence base is thin for an enterprise decision
- Self-serve plans cap workspace seats at 10
- xAPI and multi-language modules require Enterprise
- A smaller avatar library than Colossyan’s
Where Mindsmith beats Easygenerator. A free tier that publishes dynamic SCORM, and an agent that turns an existing recording into a lesson with questions.
Best for
- Teams replacing Colossyan Learn specifically
- Smaller L&D teams of 10 authors or fewer
- Organizations that want dynamic updates without an enterprise contract
G2 rating. 4.8 out of 5 from 23 reviews.
How we checked. G2 profile and Mindsmith’s own plans and video pages, all accessed October 1, 2026.
Keep avatar video, with more avatars or a different plan structure
3. HeyGen
HeyGen is an AI avatar video platform, and it is the tool most often compared with Colossyan. “HeyGen vs Colossyan” draws 600 US searches a month, plus 150 in the reverse order.
HeyGen fits teams that want a larger avatar library and in-place LMS updates on a team plan.
Presenter and avatar range
HeyGen’s plans page lists 700+ stock video avatars on its Creator and Pro plans and 500+ on Free. G2 reviewers cite ease of use in 693 reviews and realistic avatars in 486.
Training output and LMS delivery
High. HeyGen’s help center states that SCORM export, xAPI, and LMS embed are available on the Business and Enterprise plans. Quizzes and branching video built in AI Studio carry into the SCORM package, and the individual plans do not include SCORM.
Update path
High, on Business. HeyGen’s SCORM guide describes Auto-SCORM, which hosts the video on HeyGen so changes appear in the LMS without a new package.
Localization at scale
The plans page lists 175+ languages and dialects from the Creator plan, and 30+ languages on Free.
Standout features
- 700+ stock video avatars on paid plans
- SCORM, xAPI, and LMS embed on Business
- Auto-SCORM for updates without a new package
- Quizzes and branching inside the SCORM package
Pros
- The highest G2 rating among the full entries, at 4.8 out of 5
- In-place LMS updates on a team plan
- More than twice Colossyan’s stock avatar count
Cons
- No SCORM or quizzes on the individual plans
- Reviewers raise avatar limitations in 152 reviews
- A video tool, so courses still live elsewhere
Where HeyGen beats Easygenerator. Avatar range, with 700+ stock avatars on paid plans against our 155+, and 175+ languages and dialects against our 75.
Best for
- Teams that want avatar video with in-place updates on a team plan
- Organizations that need a large stock avatar library
- Training delivered as standalone video
G2 rating. 4.8 out of 5 from 1,973 reviews.
How we checked. G2 profile, HeyGen’s plans page, its help center article on LMS delivery, and its SCORM guide, all accessed October 1, 2026.
4. Synthesia
Synthesia is an AI avatar video platform for training, marketing, and internal communication, with the largest G2 review base in this comparison.
Synthesia fits teams that want avatar quality and roleplay practice from one vendor, and that already plan an enterprise contract.
Presenter and avatar range
Synthesia’s plans page lists 125+ stock avatars on Starter, 180+ on Pro, and 240+ on Enterprise, with 5 personal avatars on Pro and unlimited personal avatars on Enterprise. G2 reviewers cite realistic avatars in 788 reviews.
Training output and LMS delivery
Medium. Synthesia’s help center states that buttons and branching are available below Enterprise, and that quizzes and SCORM export are on Enterprise only. Its Sessions release adds roleplay practice with avatars that coach and score learners.
Update path
High, on Enterprise. A republished video updates in the LMS without a new export.
Localization at scale
The plans page lists 160+ languages and voices on every plan, plus 1-click translation into 80+ languages on Enterprise.
Standout features
- 240+ stock avatars and unlimited personal avatars on Enterprise
- Roleplay Sessions with coaching and scoring
- 160+ languages and voices
- Republish to update a video in the LMS
Pros
- The largest evidence base here, at 2,809 G2 reviews
- Reviewers cite ease of use in 990 reviews
- Roleplay practice from the same vendor as the video
Cons
- Quizzes and SCORM require Enterprise
- Credits meter every plan below Enterprise
- Reviewers raise avatar limitations in 443 reviews
Where Synthesia beats Easygenerator. Personal avatars of real people, which our fictional custom avatars do not offer, and a larger stock library at 240+ on Enterprise.
Best for
- Organizations already heading for an enterprise contract
- Teams that want roleplay practice and avatar video together
- Communication video alongside training
G2 rating. 4.6 out of 5 from 2,809 reviews.
How we checked. G2 profile, Synthesia’s plans page, its help center, and its Sessions release, all accessed October 1, 2026. We go deeper in our Synthesia alternatives comparison.
Keep video and courses in one tool, at enterprise scale
5. AI Studios by DeepBrain AI
AI Studios is DeepBrain AI’s video platform, with AI avatars, interactive avatars, and an AI Course Builder that DeepBrain AI announced on June 10, 2026.
AI Studios is the closest structural match to Colossyan in this comparison. It generates a course with lessons, section quizzes, and avatar video, then exports SCORM, with the training features on its Enterprise plan.
Presenter and avatar range
AI Studios’ plans page lists stock avatars and AI-generated avatars as two separate rows. Stock avatars run from 40+ on Free and 100+ on Personal to 155+ on Team and Enterprise. AI-generated avatars, which the platform creates on request, appear at 2,000+ on every plan, alongside 1,000+ AI voices, multi-avatar scenes, and a separate Interactive Avatar plan for real-time conversation. G2 reviewers cite ease of use in 193 reviews and realistic avatars in 105.
Training output and LMS delivery
Medium. The plans page lists SCORM export and interactive quizzes as exclusive to Enterprise, and DeepBrain AI’s help center confirms SCORM 1.2 and 2004 for Enterprise customers only. Its course builder page describes Course Builder as an Enterprise feature.
Update path
Medium. You edit a script and regenerate scenes without a new recording. We found no statement that a published SCORM package updates in the LMS without a new export.
Localization at scale
The plans page lists 150+ languages and accents on paid plans and 30+ on Free.
Standout features
- AI Course Builder with section quizzes and SCORM
- 2,000+ AI-generated avatars, listed separately from stock avatars
- Multi-avatar scenes
- A separate Interactive Avatar plan for real-time conversation
Pros
- Video and courses in one tool, like Colossyan
- 150+ languages and accents on paid plans
- A large evidence base, at 1,059 G2 reviews
Cons
- SCORM, quizzes, and Course Builder require Enterprise
- The lowest G2 rating among the full entries, at 4.3 out of 5
- Reviewers raise AI limitations in 53 reviews and avatar limitations in 52
Where AI Studios beats Easygenerator. Language coverage, with 150+ languages and accents against our 75, and a far larger library of AI-generated avatars.
Best for
- Organizations ready for an enterprise contract that want video and courses in one tool
- Global training in many languages
- Teams that want real-time interactive avatars from the same vendor
G2 rating. 4.3 out of 5 from 1,059 reviews.
How we checked. G2 profile, AI Studios’ plans page, DeepBrain AI’s help center, and its Course Builder announcement, all accessed October 1, 2026.
Two more Colossyan alternatives worth a shortlist slot
These two did not get full entries, and each one answers a narrower question.
6. Vyond
What it is. Vyond is an animated video platform from GoAnimate, Inc., with four asset styles, a Character Creator, and 1,300+ avatar options.
Best for. Teams that want to replace AI presenters with animated characters for soft skills and scenario training.
Why it is in the second tier. Vyond’s help center states that learner interactivity inside a Vyond video is not possible, and SCORM sits on Enterprise and Agency only, which trades away the interactive video that Colossyan teams already rely on. It holds 4.7 out of 5 from 550 reviews. We go deeper in our Vyond alternatives comparison.
7. Camtasia
What it is. Camtasia is a screen recorder and video editor from TechSmith, with quizzes and SCORM export from its Essentials plan, per TechSmith’s store page.
Best for. Teams that want a real person back on screen in place of an AI avatar.
Why it is in the second tier. Camtasia records footage and does not generate avatar video from a script, apart from 49 AI avatars on its Pro plan. A changed video means a new SCORM package, so it shares Colossyan’s update gap. It holds 4.6 out of 5 from 1,765 reviews. We go deeper in our Camtasia alternatives comparison.

When Colossyan remains the right choice
Colossyan stays the better option in several situations, and we say so plainly on a page like this one.
Its interactive training starts earlier than any tool here. The free Starter plan includes 10 interactive videos a month, course creation, and 15 custom avatars, and its avatar conversation page states that multi-avatar scenes work on all plans. SCORM arrives on Professional, below an enterprise contract. Instant Avatars from real team members, conversational avatars on Enterprise, and SOC 2 Type II compliance round out the offer. Colossyan’s marketing also quotes a customer who cut around 90% of video production costs, which is a vendor-published claim.
Its reviewers agree. Across 495 G2 reviews, ease of use appears in 212 and realistic avatars in 128. Mariaan V., a Learning Designer, wrote in an April 2026 G2 review that Colossyan turns written content into polished training videos quickly, and added that some advanced features feel limited below the higher plans.
If your courses change rarely, if 5 SCORM exports a month cover your output, and if interactive avatar video is the core of your training, staying with Colossyan is a defensible call.
How to move Colossyan videos into a tracked course
You do not have to rebuild everything at once. Colossyan’s document to video page describes MP4 export up to 1080p, and Easygenerator accepts video files. An exported video can sit inside a course while your team adds knowledge checks around it, and the course then updates in the LMS through dynamic SCORM.
Those questions cost little in completion. Across 45,214 Easygenerator courses with at least five learner results, courses with four or more questions completed at 71.6%, against 72.3% for courses with one to three. Short content helps too, since courses under five minutes completed at 85.5% against 70.6% for courses over fifteen minutes. The figures come from an Easygenerator dataset of 213,660 courses and 22.9 million learner-course interactions between June 2025 and June 2026, and they describe activity on our platform, not the e-learning industry as a whole. See do knowledge checks reduce course completion rates and the 2026 e-learning benchmark report.
Generated video moves fast, and someone still has to own what it says. Louise Puddifoot, an independent L&D consultant, described that balance in our December 2025 webinar on L&D trends.
“That’s really understanding what this autopilot can now do for us, what its capabilities are, what it can’t do, how to work with its constraints. And then the other side is that we still need to be the pilot.”
Louise Puddifoot, independent L&D consultant. Easygenerator webinar on L&D trends, December 2025.
Name one reviewer for each course before you move it, and keep that person on the course after it goes live.
Final thoughts
Colossyan built more training features into an AI video tool than most of its competitors, and it put them on lower plans. Teams leave over the limits around those features, which are monthly export caps, a new package for every change, and several features reserved for Enterprise.
Start from the limit you hit. If you want to update courses in the LMS without a new package or an export count, look at Easygenerator or Mindsmith. If you want to keep avatar video with more avatars or in-place updates on a team plan, look at HeyGen. If you already plan an enterprise contract, Synthesia and AI Studios offer avatar quality, roleplay, and courses at that level.
