What a video presentation is, and the four ways to present one
A video presentation is a recorded presentation that learners watch on their own time. It combines slides or visual scenes with a presenter who explains them, so the content works without a live session.
The presenter can take four forms.
- An on-camera presenter, where you record yourself next to or in front of your slides
- An AI avatar, a generated presenter who reads your script
- An animated character, a cartoon presenter that acts out the scenario
- Narration only, where a voice explains the slides with no presenter on screen
Training teams use all four. A leader’s welcome works best on camera, a policy update suits an avatar, a customer conversation suits an animated character, and a quick process summary needs only narration.
Viewers lean toward the first. In TechSmith’s 2024 Video Viewer Trends Report, a survey of about 1,000 people in six countries, 87% said they prefer a real person over an animated character or AI avatar in instructional and informational video. TechSmith makes the video tool Camtasia, so read that as a vendor’s survey. It is also the reason this article scores whether a real person can present.

How we evaluated video presentation software for training
We scored each tool on four criteria, and those same four criteria run through the comparison table and the sub-headings inside every entry below.
Real-person presence. Whether a real person can present, on camera in a recording or live in a video call. This is the question that splits the field, because tools that build video from scenes and tools that record you answer it differently.
Presenter options. Whether the tool supports an on-camera presenter, an AI avatar, an animated character, AI narration, or a combination.
Visual and motion design. How far the tool goes beyond static slides, from element animations to character animation and zooming canvases.
Tracking and LMS delivery. Whether the output publishes as SCORM or Experience API (xAPI), and whether your LMS receives question-level results, completion, or nothing.
How we graded each criterion
Real-person presence. High means a real presenter on camera in recordings and in live video calls. Medium means a real presenter on camera in recordings. Low means AI avatars, animated characters, or narration only.
Presenter options. High means an on-camera presenter plus an avatar or animated character, plus AI narration. Medium means two of those. Low means one.
Visual and motion design. High means character animation or a zooming canvas, plus animated transitions. Medium means animations or design controls on slide elements. Low means static slides with a recording.
Tracking and LMS delivery. High means question-level results inside a course through SCORM 2004 or xAPI. Medium means SCORM export with completion criteria. Low means an LMS or video platform integration without SCORM export. None found means we found no LMS export in the vendor’s published material.
Low is not a failing grade. It describes what a tool does, and a Low on one criterion can sit next to a High on another in the same entry.

Powtoon sits between a presentation tool and an animation tool. Its slide-like editor makes animated video approachable for people who have only built decks.

When Vyond remains the right choice
Vyond is the stronger tool in this article for training that tells a story with characters. Animated characters act out a difficult conversation, a safety incident, or a customer complaint in a way slides and avatars do not.
It also wins our visual and motion design criterion against EasyVideo. Character animation and Vyond Go’s prompt-to-video drafts give Vyond a range of styles EasyVideo does not cover.
Its reviewers back that up. On its G2 profile, Ease of Use leads the praised themes at 174 mentions, followed by Video Creation at 119 and Features at 105. Limited Customization leads the criticisms at 43, with Limited Options and Limited Features at 28 each.
The difference narrows on tracking. Vyond exports SCORM with completion criteria. If the video has to sit alongside text, knowledge checks, and question-level reporting in one course, it needs to live inside an authoring tool.
A slide deck is not a video script
Most video presentations start as a slide deck, and most slide decks were written to support a live speaker. Recording that deck as it stands produces a long video with dense slides and no pauses where a speaker would have taken questions.
Length matters. Our own platform data shows that across 3,802 courses with enough learner results to measure, courses under five minutes reached an average completion rate of 85.5%, against 70.6% for courses over 15 minutes. The figures come from an Easygenerator dataset of 213,660 courses and 22.9 million learner-course interactions between June 2025 and June 2026, and they describe activity on our platform rather than the e-learning industry as a whole. TechSmith’s viewer survey adds a nuance, since 10 to 19 minutes was the most popular length for instructional video, while nearly two thirds of respondents said videos over 20 minutes run too long.

He also argued that learners want to jump to the part they need, as they do with chapters on a streaming service, rather than scroll through a 90-slide deck. The practical step is to split a long deck into short videos, one topic each, and rewrite the speaker notes as a script before you record or generate anything. Final thoughts
The right tool depends on who needs to present. If the content works without your face, a tool that builds the video from slides and scenes gives you avatars, characters, and narration, and it can report results to your LMS. If the message depends on a real person, a tool that records you beside your slides keeps that person in the frame.
Start with one deck you already have. Cut it to one topic, rewrite the notes as a script, and build the same five-minute video in two tools before you decide.
