The best Adobe Captivate alternatives for enterprise L&D teams in 2026

Adobe Captivate is built for software simulation and holds 3.9 out of 5 on G2. Which alternative fits depends on whether your training teaches people to use software.

Key takeaways

  • Adobe publishes one price and quotes the rest. A single subscription costs US$39.99 per month, and Adobe publishes no figure for teams or enterprises, so you cannot model the cost of a ten-author team from anything Adobe puts in public.
  • Simulation is the criterion that splits this field. Two of the seven tools here record a screen and produce practice that scores the learner. Three more record a screen for walkthroughs. Two do neither.
  • Two vendors in this comparison stopped publishing prices. dominKnow ONE removed its per-author figures during 2026, and Confirm has never listed one for Create, which makes budget planning harder at shortlist stage.
  • Adobe shipped Captivate Classic project import in April 2026, and it changes the migration math. Teams sitting on Classic files now have a supported route forward inside Adobe, so leaving is a choice rather than a forced move.

Adobe Captivate is a desktop authoring tool, and three things push teams to replace it

Adobe Captivate is an e-learning authoring tool from Adobe that builds software simulations, responsive courses, interactive video, and slide-based content. Adobe sells it under Digital Learning Solutions rather than Creative Cloud, and every subscription includes both the current Adobe Captivate and the legacy Adobe Captivate Classic.

The current product is version 13.2, which Adobe released on 26 August 2026. Version 13.1 arrived on 15 April 2026 and version 13.0 in November 2025, so anyone evaluating Captivate today is looking at a product Adobe has updated three times in ten months.

Three reasons come up repeatedly when L&D teams start looking elsewhere.

The learning curve limits who can author. G2’s own summary of the review corpus names a steep learning curve as the common limitation across 204 reviews. That is a fair trade for a specialist team, and it becomes a constraint when the volume of training a business needs outgrows the number of people qualified to build it.

Team pricing is invisible until you talk to sales. Adobe lists US$39.99 per month for one author on its buying guide and routes everything larger through volume licensing or an Enterprise Term License Agreement.

Desktop authoring limits collaboration. Captivate runs as an installed application on Windows and macOS. Adobe added Share for Review so stakeholders can comment without installing the software, and the authoring itself stays on one machine.

We cover the platform in detail in our Adobe Captivate review, which highlights all 35 G2 reviews rated below four stars.

Adobe Captivate and Adobe Learning Manager are different products

Adobe Captivate is an authoring tool that creates courses. Adobe Learning Manager is an LMS that delivers and tracks them. Adobe sells them separately, and they solve different problems.

The confusion has a history. Adobe Learning Manager was called Adobe Captivate Prime until 2022, and the old name still carries real search volume, so a lot of people who type “Adobe Captivate” are looking for the LMS. Several published comparison articles conflate the two, including one that ranks on page one for Captivate alternatives while its own URL points at Adobe Learning Manager.

Check which product you actually need before you shortlist. If you want to build courses, the tools in this article are your alternatives. If you want to host, assign, and report on training, you need an LMS comparison instead, and every authoring tool below publishes into one.

How we evaluated Adobe Captivate alternatives

We scored each tool on four criteria, and those same four criteria run through the comparison table and the sub-headings inside every entry below.

Authoring model. Who can realistically build a course, and how much instructional design skill the tool assumes before the output is publishable.

Software simulation and screen capture. Whether the tool records a screen, and what it produces from that recording. This is the capability Captivate is most often bought for, so it decides more shortlists than any other item here.

Publishing and LMS delivery. Which standards the tool exports, including SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI, and cmi5, and whether a content change reaches the LMS without a manual re-upload.

Pricing model. The published cost per author, and how total cost behaves as author count grows.

How we graded software simulation

The High, Medium, and None bands in the table are ours, and here is what earns each one. High means the tool records a screen and produces a mode where the learner performs the steps and gets scored. Medium means the tool records a screen and produces a walkthrough the learner watches or clicks through, with any scoring built by hand. None means the tool does not record a screen for course content.

Grades come from each vendor’s own published documentation. Where that documentation is thin, we say so inside the entry rather than guess.

What we deliberately did not score

We did not score localization, because Captivate’s April 2026 release added right-to-left authoring for languages including Arabic and Hebrew, and because language handling does not separate this particular field the way simulation does. Localization still appears in the recommendation table below.

We also did not score template libraries or visual polish, since both depend on your brand standards rather than on the tool.

Ownership disclosure

Easygenerator is our own product, and we publish this article. We reviewed the other eight tools independently, from their public G2 profiles and their own published pricing and documentation pages. All G2 figures were verified on September 10, 2026.

What we left out and why

We gave full entries to six tools and short entries to three more. Several tools you may have seen on other lists are out, and here is why.

  • Adobe Learning Manager is an LMS rather than an authoring tool, for the reasons above
  • Adobe Captivate Classic ships inside every Captivate subscription, so it is not an alternative to the thing that contains it
  • Synthesia and HeyGen generate video and report nothing to an LMS, so they answer a neighboring question
  • Digital adoption platforms such as WalkMe and Whatfix overlay guidance on live software rather than author courses, and buyers who want in-app guidance rather than trackable training should compare those separately

Which Captivate job you are replacing

Captivate does several jobs, so “alternative” means different things to different buyers. Match your situation to one of these three groups before you read any entry.

Replacing Captivate for course production across many contributors

You need more people to build training than your design team can staff. You want guardrails rather than granular control, and you need governance over what ships.

Best fit for. Easygenerator, Create by Confirm, or isEazy Author.

Replacing Captivate for interaction depth

You build branching scenarios and courses with conditional logic. You need variables, object states, and control over interaction behavior, and simulation is secondary.

Best fit for. Articulate 360 or Lectora.

Replacing Captivate for software simulation and screen-recorded training

Your training teaches people to use software. You need screen capture that becomes practice rather than a video, and you need it tracked.

Best fit for. dominKnow ONE, iSpring Suite, or ActivePresenter.

All G2 ratings and review counts in this table were verified on September 10, 2026. G2 counts move in both directions as reviews are added and removed, so figures on pages published earlier may differ by a few reviews.

Replacing Captivate for course production across many contributors

1. Easygenerator

Easygenerator is a cloud e-learning authoring tool that helps organizations create company-tailored training at scale by letting subject-matter experts build courses alongside L&D.

Easygenerator takes the opposite position to Adobe on the question of who authors. Rather than equip a small specialist team with deep tooling, it gives guardrails to a large group so that the people who hold the knowledge can publish it themselves.

Authoring model

Distributed. New authors build a publishable course without prior instructional design experience, guided by templates and built-in didactic support. EasyAI adds a conversational AI Agent that generates course structure and refines pages on instruction, and it shows its plan before it executes changes across multiple blocks.

Software simulation and screen capture

None. EasyVideo is available as a powerful addition to the suite and it records screen and camera, so you can produce a walkthrough learners watch. Learners do not perform the steps and get scored, which is the thing Captivate does and we do not.

Publishing and LMS delivery

Manual and dynamic SCORM, xAPI, native integrations with Cornerstone and LearnUpon, plus direct course links. Dynamic SCORM pushes course updates into the LMS with no re-upload, which removes the step Captivate requires on every change.

Pricing model

Per author, with an Enterprise tier that removes the author cap. That tier is the reason Easygenerator is the one tool here where cost stops tracking contributor growth.

Standout features

  • Dynamic SCORM, so a published course updates in the LMS in place
  • Guided authoring with built-in didactic support for non-designers
  • EasyAI Agent for conversational course creation and refinement
  • EasyTranslate as a powerful addition to the suite, covering 75 languages with unlimited translations and edits
  • Real-time co-authoring and reviewer workflows
  • 24/5 live support, guided onboarding, and a dedicated Customer Success Manager for enterprise customers

Pros

  • Non-specialists produce publishable courses, which raises author count without new headcount
  • The one tool here with an unlimited-author tier
  • Dynamic SCORM removes the re-upload cycle
  • Browser-based, so authors work on any machine without an install
  • SCORM import rebuilds existing course output as editable content

Cons

  • No software simulation, which is the main reason teams buy Captivate
  • No virtual reality authoring
  • Design control is narrower than Captivate by design, since guardrails hold quality consistent
  • Cloud only, so offline desktop authoring is not an option
  • EasyVideo and EasyCoach come as additions to the suite rather than inside the core authoring license

Best for

  • Enterprises of 1,000 employees and up with distributed content creation
  • L&D teams who govern and review rather than build everything themselves
  • Global teams who maintain one course in many languages
  • Authors with no instructional design background
  • Content that changes quarterly rather than once

Pricing. Pro starts at US$1,399 per year for a single author. Team starts at US$6,995 per year for five authors. The Enterprise plan is available on request and removes the author cap.

G2 rating. 4.7 out of 5 from 175 reviews.

Morningstar shows what the distributed model looks like in practice. The company grew training coverage from 5,200 to 11,500 employees across 34 countries, and over 400 internal experts now build content rather than a central design team. Kevin Seifert, Global Head of Learning and Development at Morningstar, said, “You can put Easygenerator in someone’s hands, and they can start building courses right away.” Local teams also localize courses themselves rather than route every language through a vendor. Read the full Morningstar customer story.

Frédéric Hebert, former Chief Learning Officer at Danone and current Chief Learning Officer at RiseUp, described what the shift asks of an L&D team in our November 2025 webinar on learning in the flow of work.

“You’re not losing your expertise, you’re not losing your job. You just adapt a bit. You’re not the only expert. Your job will slightly change. You will be the guide more than the trainer.”

Frédéric Hebert, former Chief Learning Officer at Danone and Chief Learning Officer at RiseUp. Easygenerator webinar on learning in the flow of work, November 2025.

Our own platform data shows what happens when authoring stays hard. Across 213,660 courses and 22.9 million learner-course interactions between June 2025 and June 2026, 48% of courses created were never published. That figure describes activity on the Easygenerator platform rather than the e-learning industry as a whole, and it points at a bottleneck no per-seat license fixes. See the 2026 e-learning benchmark report.

2. Create by Confirm, formerly Elucidat

Create is a cloud authoring platform sold by Confirm, and it was called Elucidat until recently. Confirm acquired Learning Pool, which owned Elucidat, and the product now sits inside Confirm’s frontline workforce suite alongside Learn, Library, and Custom.

That history matters for anyone who shortlists from older comparisons. The tool you read about as Elucidat, then as Elucidat Create, is now Create by Confirm, and G2 still serves its profile at the Elucidat URL.

Authoring model

Centralized. Locked templates and brand rules let a small design team set standards that other contributors work inside, which is closer to governance than to distributed authoring.

Software simulation and screen capture

None. Confirm documents no screen recording or software simulation capability in Create, so teams that need simulation work keep a second tool.

Publishing and LMS delivery

SCORM export for LMS delivery. Updates need republishing. G2’s own user data reports a two-month typical implementation time across 185 reviews, the longest published figure of the six primary tools.

Pricing model

Quote only. Confirm publishes prices for its frontline delivery products and lists Create under “Get pricing” with no figure, so budget planning needs a sales conversation.

Standout features

  • Template governance across large course libraries
  • More than 75 languages with translation workflows in the platform
  • Reviewer and approval workflows for formal sign-off chains
  • AI-assisted authoring aimed at audit-ready output

Pros

  • Strong brand and template control for centralized design functions
  • Broad language coverage inside the authoring tool
  • Governance features suit regulated sign-off chains

Cons

  • No software simulation, so it does not replace what Captivate is bought for
  • The rebrand fragments documentation and third-party comparisons across three product names
  • No published pricing makes budget planning harder at shortlist stage
  • Create now sits in a suite aimed at frontline workforce management, so the roadmap may not track enterprise authoring priorities
  • The longest typical implementation time in this comparison at two months

Best for

  • Brand teams that need strict design control across many courses
  • Centralized design functions with formal review cycles
  • Organizations comfortable with a quote-based purchase
  • Frontline and shift-based workforces, which the wider suite targets

Pricing. Available on request from Confirm.

G2 rating. 4.3 out of 5 from 185 reviews, under the Create profile that G2 still serves at the Elucidat URL.

How we checked. G2 profile including its published user-insights data, plus Confirm’s own pricing page, all accessed September 10, 2026. We go deeper in our Elucidat alternative comparison.

Replacing Captivate for interaction depth

3. Articulate 360

Articulate 360 is a subscription suite of e-learning authoring tools from Articulate, built around Storyline for slide-based interactive courses and Rise for responsive web courses.

Articulate is the most common destination for teams that leave Captivate, and its review base is the largest of any product in this article by a wide margin.

Authoring model

Specialist. Storyline assumes comfort with variables, triggers, and object states, so output quality tracks author experience closely. Rise sits alongside it for faster responsive courses that need less setup.

Software simulation and screen capture

Medium. Articulate’s own Storyline page states that you record your screen once and then edit the recording afterward without re-recording. Scoring and practice behavior get built by hand rather than generated by a mode you pick at capture time.

Publishing and LMS delivery

SCORM and xAPI export. Updates need a fresh publish and a re-upload. Articulate’s pricing page lists a built-in LMS and learner enrollment as add-ons rather than as parts of the base license.

Pricing model

Per user, per year, across two published tiers. Articulate lists Teams at US$1,749 per user per year and Personal at US$1,449 per user per year on its pricing page.

Standout features

  • Storyline for variable-driven interaction and branching
  • Rise for responsive courses that need less author setup
  • Screen recording with recordings that stay editable
  • Agentic AI authoring, plus generated images, narration, and quizzes
  • More than 1,000 templates and over 20 million course assets per Articulate’s pricing page
  • Review workflows and shared team asset libraries

Pros

  • The largest evidence base of any product in this article at 788 G2 reviews
  • The biggest user community in the category, which makes hiring an experienced author easier
  • Two authoring tools under one license cover both interaction depth and speed
  • Published per-user pricing on both tiers

Cons

  • The highest published per-user price of the tools in this comparison
  • Distribution, learner management, and analytics carry add-on pricing on top of the license
  • Storyline rewards instructional design skill, which limits distributed content creation
  • Updates need a republish and an LMS re-upload

Best for

  • Teams with dedicated instructional designers
  • Courses that lean on variables and conditional logic
  • Organizations that want template breadth out of the box
  • Buyers who value a large hiring pool of experienced authors

Pricing. Teams US$1,749 per user per year. Personal US$1,449 per user per year, per Articulate’s pricing page.

G2 rating. 4.7 out of 5 from 788 reviews.

How we checked. G2 profile plus Articulate’s own pricing and Storyline pages, all accessed September 10, 2026. We go deeper in our Articulate 360 alternatives comparison and Articulate 360 review.

4. Lectora

Lectora is an authoring tool from ELB Learning, available as a desktop application and as a browser-based tool, known for publishing flexibility and accessibility support.

Lectora earns its place on accessibility rather than on breadth. For regulated buyers, that single criterion often decides the shortlist.

Authoring model

Specialist. Lectora gives experienced authors control over layout, variables, and course logic, and the interface assumes that experience.

Software simulation and screen capture

Medium. ELB Learning documents a screen recorder and video editor in the Tools ribbon, and its knowledge base publishes guidance on how to create software simulations in Lectora and Lectora Online. The capture itself produces video rather than a scored practice mode.

Publishing and LMS delivery

SCORM, xAPI, and HTML5 export. Updates need republishing. ELB lists direct publishing to Cornerstone, Docebo, Healthstream, and SCORM Cloud among others.

Pricing model

Bundle only. ELB Learning sells Lectora inside the Studio Gold Suite rather than as a standalone license, so the suite sets your entry price.

Standout features

  • Section 508 and WCAG accessibility support, among the strongest in the category
  • Desktop and browser authoring in one license
  • Variable-driven course logic
  • Screen recorder and video editor built into the Tools ribbon
  • ReviewLink for reviewer feedback
  • An AI Course Wizard that drafts a preliminary course

Pros

  • Accessibility tooling suits public sector and regulated buyers
  • Mixed desktop and cloud teams work from one license
  • The Studio Gold Suite bundles four products at a published price
  • Published pricing, which two other tools here no longer offer

Cons

  • You cannot buy Lectora on its own, so the bundle sets the price
  • Only 55 G2 reviews behind the 4.1 score
  • The interface assumes authoring experience, which limits distributed content creation
  • ELB Learning renamed itself from eLearning Brothers, and G2 still lists the older company name on the product profile

Best for

  • Public sector and regulated organizations with accessibility mandates
  • Experienced authors who need variable-driven logic
  • Teams who will use the wider ELB Learning toolset

Pricing. Studio Gold Suite from US$1,549 per year. The full Studio bundle starts at US$10,547 per year, per ELB Learning’s pricing page.

G2 rating. 4.1 out of 5 from 55 reviews.

How we checked. G2 profile, ELB Learning’s pricing page, and the ELB Learning knowledge base, all accessed September 10, 2026. We go deeper in our Lectora alternative comparison.

Replacing Captivate for software simulation and screen-recorded training

5. iSpring Suite

iSpring Suite is an authoring tool from iSpring Solutions that runs as a PowerPoint add-in, and it adds narration, quizzes, dialogue simulations, and SCORM publishing to slides authors have already built.

For teams that leave Captivate on cost, iSpring answers the narrowest version of the question. Your authors keep the interface they know, and the deck becomes a tracked course rather than a rebuilt one.

Authoring model

Mixed. Trainers and subject-matter experts who know PowerPoint start producing quickly, and the PowerPoint dependency also sets the ceiling on what the output can do.

Software simulation and screen capture

Medium. iSpring records a screen with editing, and its dialogue simulations put learners into scored conversation practice. The scored practice covers conversations rather than software steps, so software walkthroughs stay closer to guided video.

Publishing and LMS delivery

SCORM 1.2 and 2004, xAPI, and question-level quiz reporting. Content changes need a fresh publish and a re-upload.

Pricing model

Per author, per year, across three published tiers, and the lowest entry price of any full entry in this comparison.

Standout features

  • Runs inside PowerPoint, so existing decks need no migration
  • 14 question types with response-level reporting
  • Dialogue simulations for scored conversation practice
  • Screen recording with editing
  • Content library of templates and characters

Pros

  • The largest review base of the six primary tools at 866 G2 reviews
  • Shortest ramp-up for anyone who already builds decks
  • Published pricing across all three tiers
  • Strongest question-level reporting of the six primary tools

Cons

  • Windows only, and it requires PowerPoint, which rules out Mac-only teams
  • Cloud collaboration sits in a separate product line rather than in Suite itself
  • Software simulation is weaker than Captivate, dominKnow ONE, or ActivePresenter
  • iSpring sells several similarly named products, so check which one a quote covers

Best for

  • Teams with a large existing library of training decks
  • Organizations that need a low per-author entry price
  • Windows environments
  • Training that needs question-level reporting
  • Conversation practice for sales and service teams

Pricing. iSpring Suite US$970 per author/year. iSpring Suite AI US$1,290 per author/year. iSpring Cloud AI US$720 per author/year, per iSpring’s pricing page.

G2 rating. 4.6 out of 5 from 866 reviews.

How we checked. G2 profile and iSpring’s own pricing page, both accessed September 10, 2026. We go deeper in our iSpring alternative comparison and iSpring Suite review.

6. dominKnow ONE

dominKnow ONE is a cloud authoring platform from dominKnow for L&D teams who publish high volumes of content in several output formats from one source.

Of the alternatives here, dominKnow comes closest to matching what Captivate does technically. It carries simulation, single-source publishing, and enterprise deployment options in one platform.

Authoring model

Specialist. Three authoring modes cover responsive design, fixed-screen interactivity, and software simulation inside one environment, and all three carry their own learning curve.

Software simulation and screen capture

High. dominKnow lists integrated software simulation on every published tier, including the entry tier, which is unusual in this field. dominKnow does not publish the specific practice modes on its pricing page, so confirm the behavior you need in a demo.

Publishing and LMS delivery

SCORM, xAPI, and cmi5 export. Updates need republishing. dominKnow also sells Convey for dynamic content delivery, so published content can be updated in place through that route rather than through a standard SCORM package.

Pricing model

Quote only, per author. dominKnow published per-author figures until 2026 and now routes all three tiers through a custom quote, so older comparisons that cite a list price are out of date.

Standout features

  • Single-source authoring publishes one build as a course, a job aid, and a support page
  • Integrated software simulation on every tier
  • Three authoring modes in one environment
  • Unified language management from a single course, plus an AI Translator
  • WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility support
  • Versioning and rollback, and on-premises deployment

Pros

  • Simulation plus single-source publishing in one platform, which few tools combine
  • Asset library and content reuse keep templates consistent at enterprise scale
  • Enterprise deployment options include on-premises and private hosting
  • Convey offers a route to update delivered content without a re-upload

Cons

  • Only 38 G2 reviews, so independent signal is thin and the 4.1 score rests on a small base
  • No published pricing since 2026, so budget planning needs a sales conversation
  • Business Plus carries a five-author minimum, which sets a floor for smaller teams
  • Three authoring modes in one tool add to onboarding time

Best for

  • Enterprise L&D teams who manage large content libraries
  • Teams that need simulation and standard course authoring in one platform
  • Organizations with five or more dedicated authors
  • Buyers who need on-premises deployment

Pricing. Custom quote across Business, Business Plus, and Enterprise, per dominKnow’s pricing page. Business Plus is sold to teams of five or more.

G2 rating. 4.1 out of 5 from 38 reviews.

How we checked. G2 profile and dominKnow’s own pricing page, both accessed September 10, 2026. We go deeper in our dominKnow ONE alternative comparison.

Three more Adobe Captivate alternatives worth a shortlist slot

These three did not get full entries, and each one is a reasonable answer to a narrower question.

7. ActivePresenter

What it is. ActivePresenter is a desktop authoring tool from Atomi Systems built around screen recording and software simulation, sold as a perpetual license with a free version available.

Best for. Teams that need Captivate-style simulation on a small budget, and buyers who prefer to own a license outright rather than subscribe.

Why it is in the second tier. Its 4.6 out of 5 from 19 reviews is the thinnest evidence base of any tool in this article, and 19 reviews will not carry an enterprise decision. The pricing basis also differs from everything else here, since Atomi sells perpetual licenses at US$249 for Standard and US$499 for Pro rather than an annual per-author fee.

8. Camtasia

What it is. Camtasia is a screen recording and video editing tool from TechSmith, and G2 lists it under Video Editing Software rather than Course Authoring Software.

Best for. Teams whose Captivate use is mostly screen-recorded walkthroughs, and who deliver those recordings as video rather than as tracked courses.

Why it is in the second tier. Camtasia records a screen better than most authoring tools and it does not author a course, so it replaces part of what Captivate does rather than the product. Its 4.6 out of 5 from 1,764 reviews is the largest review base in this article, which reflects a much wider audience than L&D. We cover it in our training video software comparison.

9. isEazy Author

What it is. isEazy Author is a cloud authoring tool from isEazy built around AI-assisted course creation and accessibility compliance, sold alongside a wider suite that includes an LMS and a skills product.

Best for. Teams that want AI generation and accessibility support in one tool, and buyers in Spanish-speaking markets, where isEazy has its strongest presence.

Why it is in the second tier. Its 4.9 out of 5 from 22 reviews is the highest score in this article and it rests on one of the smallest review bases, so the score carries less weight than iSpring’s 4.6 from 866. It also offers no software simulation.

When Adobe Captivate remains the right choice

Adobe Captivate stays the better option in several situations.

Captivate builds software simulations with demo, training, and assessment modes plus full-motion recording, and that depth is why most teams buy it. If your training teaches people to operate software, few tools here match it, and the two that come closest carry either a thin review base or a quote-only price.

Captivate is also the cheapest published entry point of any full entry in this article at US$39.99 per month for one author, and Adobe includes both product versions, 100GB of storage, and generative credits in every plan. If your team already works in Adobe Creative Cloud, reviewers cite the connection with Photoshop and After Effects unprompted. And if you own Captivate Classic projects, Captivate is the only product that can open them.

What happens to your Captivate Classic projects when you switch

Existing courses do not have to block a decision, and the honest answer depends on whether you stay inside Adobe.

Adobe now offers a route that keeps you there. Version 13.1 added Captivate Classic project import in beta, including simulation projects that retain highlight boxes, click boxes, input fields, and recorded typing text, provided you prepare them with Save for new Captivate first. That option did not exist when most published Captivate comparisons were written.

If you move to another authoring tool, plan to rebuild. Captivate publishes SCORM and xAPI packages, those packages play in any LMS, and nothing you have already delivered stops working. What they do not do is open as editable content somewhere else. A published package is output rather than a source file, and that holds for every authoring tool on this list, ours included.

Rebuilding is less work than it sounds when you start from the material the course came from rather than from the course itself. Most Captivate content began as a slide deck, a process document, or a set of notes. Easygenerator imports PowerPoint decks directly, and EasyAI turns a document into a structured outline with draft content, so authors edit a first draft rather than face an empty page.

Most teams migrate in stages. Pick the courses that carry the most change, rebuild those first, and leave stable content in the LMS until its next review cycle. Teams that keep simulation work in Captivate often run both tools for a while, which is a reasonable end state rather than a failed migration.

Final thoughts

Adobe Captivate built its position on simulation depth, and that depth still earns its price for teams who train people to use software. The alternatives in this article matter for a different reason. Each one moves a different part of the equation, whether that is who creates content, how updates reach the LMS, or what a team of ten authors actually costs.

Start from what your training teaches. Software steps point at one shortlist, conceptual and compliance content points at another, and getting that question right saves more time than any feature comparison.

The strongest alternatives are Easygenerator for authoring across many contributors, Articulate 360 for interaction depth, iSpring Suite for PowerPoint conversion, dominKnow ONE for simulation at volume, Lectora for accessibility work, and Create by Confirm for centralized design control. Which one fits depends on whether your training teaches software steps.

How much does Adobe Captivate cost? +

Adobe publishes one figure, US$39.99 per month for a single subscription. Adobe publishes no price for teams or enterprises and routes those through volume licensing or a three-year Enterprise Term License Agreement. G2 reports a typical contract of US$1,000 to US$6,000 per year across its 204 reviews.

Which Adobe Captivate alternative is best for software simulation? +

dominKnow ONE lists integrated software simulation on every published tier and combines it with single-source publishing. ActivePresenter costs less and offers a free version, and it carries only 19 G2 reviews. iSpring Suite records a screen and adds scored dialogue simulations, though its software walkthroughs stay closer to guided video.

Is Adobe Captivate or Easygenerator better for subject-matter experts? +

Easygenerator. It provides instructional design guidance inside the tool and runs in a browser with no installation, so people without design training can produce a course that meets a standard. G2 reviewers score Easygenerator 9.5 on ease of use against 6.8 for Adobe Captivate. Captivate remains better for simulation.

Is Adobe Captivate part of Creative Cloud? +

No. Adobe sells Captivate as its own subscription under Digital Learning Solutions, and a Creative Cloud subscription does not include it. Every Captivate plan includes the current Adobe Captivate, Adobe Captivate Classic, 100GB of storage, and generative credits. Captivate does work closely with Photoshop and After Effects.
