Key takeaways
- Articulate publishes distribution, learner management, and translation as separate purchases. Its localization add-on starts at $5,000 per year and Reach Pro starts at $3,600 for 1,200 active learners per year, on top of the $1,749 per user Teams license.
- The right alternative depends on which Articulate product you use today. Storyline replacements need interaction depth. Rise replacements need speed and low author effort. Those are different shortlists.
- Per-author pricing caps how many people can create content. Every tool here except Easygenerator’s Enterprise plan charges per author, so your author count stops where your budget does.
- Only two tools in this comparison update a published course without an LMS re-upload. If your content changes quarterly, that single criterion narrows the field before any other one applies.
Articulate 360 is a per-seat authoring suite, and three things push teams to replace it
Articulate 360 is a subscription suite of e-learning authoring tools from Articulate, built around Storyline for slide-based interactive courses and Rise for responsive web courses. It ships with template libraries, stock asset collections, review workflows, and AI authoring features, and Articulate sells it per user per year. Distribution through Reach, learner management, and course translation carry their own prices.
Three reasons come up repeatedly when L&D teams start looking elsewhere.
Cost tracks author count. Articulate’s own pricing page lists Teams at $1,749 per user per year and Personal at $1,449 per user per year, with Localization from $5,000 per year based on annual published translation volume and Reach Pro from $3,600 for 1,200 active learners per year. Ten authors who need translation and distribution is a materially different number from ten licenses.
Storyline rewards instructional design skill. That is a strength for specialist teams and a constraint for organizations that want subject-matter experts to contribute directly.
SCORM updates need a re-upload. Change a slide, publish a new package, upload it to the LMS again.
The market context matters here too. Grand View Research projects the global LMS market will grow from $28.6 billion in 2025 to $70.8 billion by 2030, which means most organizations are adding delivery infrastructure rather than replacing it. Your authoring tool has to publish into whatever you already run.
We cover the platform itself in our Articulate 360 review.
How we evaluated Articulate 360 alternatives
We scored each tool on four criteria, and those same four criteria run through the comparison table and the sub-headings inside every entry below.
Authoring model. Who can realistically build a course, and how much instructional design skill the tool assumes before the output is publishable.
Publishing and LMS delivery. Which standards the tool exports, including SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI, and cmi5, and whether a content change reaches the LMS without a manual re-upload.
Localization at scale. How the tool handles multiple language versions of one course, and whether a single edit flows through to every version.
Pricing model. The published cost per author, and how total cost behaves as author count grows.
How we graded localization
The High, Medium, and Low bands in the table are ours, and here is what earns each one. High means one edit in the source course propagates to every language version inside the tool. Medium means the tool supports multiple languages, and each version is maintained and exported separately. Low means language versions exist only as separate course files with no shared update path.
Ownership disclosure
Easygenerator is our own product, and we publish this article. We reviewed the other eight tools independently, from their public G2 profiles and their own published pricing and documentation pages.
What we deliberately did not score
We did not score template libraries or visual polish, because both depend on your brand standards rather than on the tool. We also did not score customer support quality, since the published evidence for it is thin across most of this category.
We gave full entries to six tools and short entries to three more. Several tools you may have seen on other lists are out, and here is why.
- Articulate Storyline and Rise on their own are components of Articulate 360 rather than alternatives to it
- Camtasia records a screen rather than authors a course, and we cover it in our training video software comparison
- Synthesia and HeyGen generate video and report nothing to an LMS, so they answer a neighboring question
- Free and open-source authoring tools are out because none of the enterprise buyers this article is written for can run compliance training on unsupported software
Which part of Articulate 360 you are replacing
Articulate 360 bundles several products, so “alternative” means different things to different buyers. Match your situation to one of these three groups before you read any entry.
Replacing Storyline, where you need interaction depth
You build branching scenarios, software simulations, and courses with conditional logic. You need variables and control over interaction behavior.
Best fit for. Adobe Captivate, Lectora, or dominKnow ONE.
Replacing Rise, where you need speed and low author effort
You build responsive courses quickly, and the people who build them are not instructional designers. You need guardrails rather than granular control.
Best fit for. Easygenerator, iSpring Suite, or isEazy Author.
Replacing the whole suite across an organization
You need many contributors, governance over output quality, and localization that does not multiply the maintenance work.
Best fit for. Easygenerator or Create by Confirm (formerly Elucidat).

Replacing Rise, where you need speed and low author effort
1. Easygenerator
Easygenerator is a cloud e-learning authoring tool that helps organizations create company-tailored training at scale by letting subject-matter experts build courses alongside L&D.
Easygenerator takes the opposite position to Articulate on the question of who authors. Rather than equip a small specialist team with deep tooling, it gives guardrails to a large group so that the people who hold the knowledge can publish it themselves.
Authoring model
Distributed. New authors build a publishable course without prior instructional design experience, guided by templates and built-in didactic support. EasyAI adds a conversational AI Agent that generates course structure and refines pages on instruction, and it shows its plan before it executes changes across multiple blocks.
Publishing and LMS delivery
Manual and dynamic SCORM, xAPI, native integrations with Cornerstone and LearnUpon, plus direct course links. Dynamic SCORM pushes course updates into the LMS with no re-upload, which removes the step Articulate requires on every change.
Localization at scale
High. EasyTranslate is available as a powerful addition to the suite, covering 75+ languages with unlimited translations and edits. One update applies across every language version, and all versions ship inside a single SCORM package.
Pricing model
Per author, with an Enterprise tier that removes the author cap. That tier is the reason Easygenerator is the only tool here where cost stops tracking contributor growth.
Standout features
- Dynamic SCORM, so a published course updates in the LMS in place
- Guided authoring with built-in didactic support for non-designers
- EasyAI Agent for conversational course creation and refinement
- 75+ language versions maintained from one source course
- Real-time co-authoring and reviewer workflows
Pros
- Non-specialists produce publishable courses, which raises author count without new headcount
- The only tool here with an unlimited-author tier
- Dynamic SCORM removes the re-upload cycle entirely
- SCORM import rebuilds existing Articulate output as editable content
Cons
- Design control is narrower than Storyline or Captivate by design, since guardrails hold quality consistent
- Branching simulation and screen-recorded software training sit outside its strengths
- Cloud only, so offline desktop authoring is not an option
- EasyVideo and EasyCoach come as additions to the suite rather than inside the core authoring license
Best for
- Enterprises of 1,000 employees and up with distributed content creation
- L&D teams who govern and review rather than build everything themselves
- Global teams maintaining one course in many languages
- Authors with no instructional design background
- Content that changes quarterly rather than once
Pricing. Pro plan starts at $1,399/year for a single author. The Team plan starts at $6,995/year for five authors. With the Enterprise plan (available on request), you can get unlimited authors.
G2 rating. 4.7 out of 5 from 175 reviews.
Morningstar shows what the distributed model looks like in practice. The company grew training coverage from 5,200 to 11,500 employees across 34 countries, and over 400 internal experts now build content rather than a central design team. Kevin Seifert, Global Head of Learning and Development at Morningstar, said, “You can put Easygenerator in someone’s hands, and they can start building courses right away.” Local teams also localize courses themselves rather than routing every language through a vendor. Read the full Morningstar customer story.
Our own platform data shows the cost of the opposite pattern. Across 213,660 courses and 22.9 million learner-course interactions between June 2025 and June 2026, 48% of courses created were never published. That figure describes activity on the Easygenerator platform rather than the e-learning industry as a whole, and it points at a bottleneck no per-seat license fixes. Content that stalls before publication has already consumed author time. See the 2026 e-learning benchmark report.
2. iSpring Suite
iSpring Suite is an authoring tool from iSpring Solutions that runs as a PowerPoint add-in, adding narration, quizzes, dialogue simulations, and SCORM publishing to slides authors have already built.
For teams replacing Rise, iSpring answers a narrower version of the same question. Your authors keep the interface they know, and the deck becomes a tracked course rather than a rebuilt one.
Authoring model
Mixed. Trainers and subject-matter experts who know PowerPoint start producing quickly, and the PowerPoint dependency also sets the ceiling on what the output can do.
Publishing and LMS delivery
SCORM 1.2 and 2004, xAPI, and question-level quiz reporting. Content changes need a fresh publish and a re-upload.
Localization at scale
Medium. Multiple languages are supported, and each version is a separate file to maintain and export.
Pricing model
Per author, per year, across three published tiers, and the lowest entry price of any tool in this comparison.
Standout features
- Runs inside PowerPoint, so existing decks need no migration
- 14 question types with response-level reporting
- Dialogue simulations for conversation practice
- Screen recording with editing
- Content library of templates and characters
Pros
- The largest review base in this comparison at 855 G2 reviews
- Shortest ramp-up for anyone who already builds decks
- Lower published entry price than Articulate 360, dominKnow ONE, or Lectora
- Strongest question-level reporting of the six primary tools
Cons
- Windows only, and it requires PowerPoint, which rules out Mac-only teams
- Cloud collaboration sits in a separate product line rather than in Suite itself
- Every language version becomes its own file
- iSpring sells several similarly named products, so check which one a quote covers
Best for
- Teams with a large existing library of training decks
- Organizations that need a low per-author entry price
- Windows environments
- Training that needs question-level reporting
Pricing. iSpring Suite $970 per author/year. iSpring Suite AI $1,290 per author/year. iSpring Cloud AI $720 per author/year, per iSpring’s pricing page.
G2 rating. 4.6 out of 5 from 855 reviews.
How we checked. G2 profile and iSpring’s own pricing page, both accessed 13 August 2026. We go deeper in our iSpring alternative comparison and iSpring review.
Replacing Storyline, where you need interaction depth
3. Adobe Captivate
Adobe Captivate is a desktop authoring tool from Adobe built for instructional designers who need control over software simulations, interactive video, and screen-recorded demonstrations.
Captivate is the closest match to Storyline’s role rather than to Articulate 360’s commercial model. If simulation is why you bought Articulate, this is the entry to read.
Authoring model
Specialist. Captivate assumes comfort with advanced actions, variables, and object states, so output quality tracks author experience closely.
Publishing and LMS delivery
SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI, and cmi5 export, which is broader standard coverage than most tools here offer. Updates need a fresh publish.
Localization at scale
Low. Language versions exist as separate course files with no shared update path.
Pricing model
Monthly subscription per user, with volume licensing for teams through Adobe’s admin console. G2’s own user data puts the typical contract at $1,000 to $6,000 per year, averaged across 204 reviews.
Standout features
- Screen recording and software simulation, where Articulate has no direct equal
- cmi5 export alongside SCORM and xAPI
- Responsive design across desktop and mobile from one build
- Adobe Creative Cloud integration
- Interactive video with knowledge-check overlays
Pros
- The strongest software simulation tooling in this comparison
- Broadest standards support of the six primary tools
- Familiar to teams already licensed for Creative Cloud
Cons
- A 3.9 out of 5 G2 rating, the lowest of any tool in this comparison
- Desktop-only authoring limits real-time collaboration
- Localization is the weakest of the six primary tools
- G2 lists a subscription price of $33.99 per month while Adobe’s own buying guide lists US$39.99, so confirm your figure with Adobe directly
Best for
- Teams that produce software training and system rollouts
- Instructional designers who need variables and advanced actions
- Organizations already inside the Adobe ecosystem
- Courses tracked with cmi5 rather than SCORM
Pricing. Single subscription for individuals from US$39.99/month per Adobe’s buying guide. Volume licensing for teams and enterprises through the same page.
G2 rating. 3.9 out of 5 from 204 reviews.
How we checked. G2 profile including its published user-insights data, plus Adobe’s own buying guide, all accessed 13 August 2026. We go deeper in our Adobe Captivate alternative comparison and Adobe Captivate review.
4. dominKnow ONE
dominKnow ONE is a cloud authoring platform from dominKnow for L&D teams who publish high volumes of content in several output formats from one source.
Where Captivate gives one author deep control, dominKnow gives a content team one source of truth. That is a different answer to the same Storyline question.
Authoring model
Specialist. Three authoring modes cover responsive design, fixed-screen interactivity, and software simulation inside one environment, and all three carry their own learning curve.
Publishing and LMS delivery
SCORM, xAPI, and cmi5 export. Updates need republishing.
Localization at scale
Medium. Multiple language versions are supported and managed as separate exports, with an AI Translator available on higher tiers.
Pricing model
Per author, per year, with a five-author minimum on Business Plus. The highest published per-author price in this comparison.
Standout features
- Single-source authoring publishes one build as a course, a job aid, and a support page
- Three authoring modes in one environment
- Shared asset library across projects
- cmi5 export for tracking outside a traditional LMS
- Single tenant install and custom URLs on Business Plus
Pros
- Single-source publishing removes duplicate builds for different output formats
- Asset library keeps templates consistent at enterprise scale
- Enterprise deployment options include on-premises and private hosting
Cons
- The highest published per-author price here, at $2,000 to $2,500
- Only 38 G2 reviews, so independent signal is thin and the 4.1 score rests on a small base
- The five-author minimum on Business Plus sets a floor of $12,500 per year
- Three authoring modes in one tool add to onboarding time
Best for
- Enterprise L&D teams managing large content libraries
- Teams publishing the same content in several output formats
- Organizations with five or more dedicated authors
- Buyers who need on-premises deployment
Pricing. Business $2,000 per author/year. Business Plus $2,500 per author/year with a five-author minimum. Enterprise on request, per dominKnow’s pricing page.
G2 rating. 4.1 out of 5 from 38 reviews.
How we checked. G2 profile and dominKnow’s own pricing page, both accessed 13 August 2026. We go deeper in our dominKnow ONE alternative comparison.
5. Lectora
Lectora is an authoring tool from ELB Learning, available as a desktop application and as a browser-based tool, known for publishing flexibility and accessibility support.
Lectora earns its place on accessibility rather than on breadth. For regulated buyers, that single criterion often decides the shortlist.
Authoring model
Specialist. Lectora gives experienced authors control over layout, variables, and course logic, and the interface assumes that experience.
Publishing and LMS delivery
SCORM, xAPI, and HTML5 export. Updates need republishing.
Localization at scale
Medium. Supported, and typically managed as separate exports.
Pricing model
Bundle only. ELB Learning sells Lectora inside the Studio Gold Suite rather than as a standalone license, so the suite sets your entry price.
Standout features
- Section 508 and WCAG accessibility support, among the strongest in the category
- Desktop and browser authoring in one license
- Variable-driven course logic
- ReviewLink for reviewer feedback
- MicroBuilder and an asset library inside the same suite
Pros
- Accessibility tooling suits public sector and regulated buyers
- Mixed desktop and cloud teams work from one license
- The Studio Gold Suite bundles four products for less than dominKnow charges for one author
Cons
- You cannot buy Lectora on its own any more, so the bundle sets the price
- Only 55 G2 reviews behind the 4.1 score
- The interface assumes authoring experience, which limits distributed content creation
- ELB Learning renamed itself from eLearning Brothers, so older documentation and comparisons use the previous name
Best for
- Public sector and regulated organizations with accessibility mandates
- Experienced authors who need variable-driven logic
- Teams who will use the wider ELB Learning toolset
Pricing. Studio Gold Suite from $1,549/year. The full Studio bundle starts at $10,547/year, per ELB Learning’s pricing page.
G2 rating. 4.1 out of 5 from 55 reviews.
How we checked. G2 profile and ELB Learning’s own pricing page, both accessed 13 August 2026. We go deeper in our Lectora alternative comparison.
Replacing the whole suite across an organization
6. Create by Confirm, formerly Elucidat
Create is a cloud authoring platform sold by Confirm, and it was called Elucidat until recently. Confirm acquired Learning Pool, which owned Elucidat, and the product now sits inside Confirm’s frontline workforce suite alongside Learn, Engage, and Perform.
That history matters for anyone shortlisting from older comparisons. The tool you read about as Elucidat, then as Elucidat Create, is now Create by Confirm, and elucidat.com redirects to confirm.com.
Authoring model
Centralized. Locked templates and brand rules let a small design team set standards that other contributors work inside, which is closer to governance than to distributed authoring.
Publishing and LMS delivery
SCORM export for LMS delivery. Updates need republishing. G2’s own user data reports a two-month typical implementation time across 185 reviews, the longest published figure of the six primary tools.
Localization at scale
High. Confirm lists 75+ languages for Create, with translation workflows in the platform rather than through a separate vendor.
Pricing model
Quote only. Confirm no longer publishes a list price, and the $1,650 Growth tier that Elucidat advertised has gone.
Standout features
- Template governance across large course libraries
- 75+ languages with in-platform translation workflows
- Reviewer and approval workflows for formal sign-off chains
- Integrations with Cornerstone, LearnUpon, Docebo, and 25 more per G2
Pros
- Strong brand and template control for centralized design functions
- Broad language coverage inside the authoring tool
- Large integration list for enterprise LMS estates
Cons
- The rebrand fragments documentation, community content, and third-party comparisons across three product names
- No published pricing makes budget planning harder at shortlist stage
- Create now sits in a suite aimed at frontline workforce management, so the roadmap may not track enterprise authoring priorities
- The longest typical implementation time in this comparison at two months
Best for
- Brand teams that need strict design control across many courses
- Centralized design functions with formal review cycles
- Organizations comfortable with a quote-based purchase
- Frontline and shift-based workforces, which the wider suite targets
Pricing. Available on request from Confirm.
G2 rating. 4.3 out of 5 from 185 reviews, under the Create profile that G2 still serves at the Elucidat URL.
How we checked. G2 profile including its published user-insights and integration data, plus Confirm’s own pricing page, all accessed 13 August 2026. We go deeper in our Elucidat alternative comparison.
Three more Articulate 360 alternatives worth a shortlist slot
These three did not get full entries, and each one is a reasonable answer to a narrower question.
7. isEazy Author
What it is. isEazy Author is a cloud authoring tool from isEazy built around AI-assisted course creation and accessibility compliance, sold alongside a wider suite that includes an LMS and a skills product.
Best for. Teams replacing Rise who want AI generation and accessibility support in one tool, and buyers in Spanish-speaking markets, where isEazy has its strongest presence.
Why it is in the second tier. Its 4.9 out of 5 from 22 reviews is the highest score in this article and it rests on the second-smallest review base, so the score carries less weight than iSpring’s 4.6 from 855.
8. Mindsmith
What it is. Mindsmith is an AI-native authoring tool that generates a structured course from a prompt or an uploaded document, with SCORM, xAPI, and cmi5 export.
Best for. Teams who need a first draft out of existing documentation fast, and buyers who want dynamic SCORM updates without an enterprise contract.
Why it is in the second tier. It is the newest product here, and its 4.8 out of 5 from 21 reviews gives a thin evidence base for an enterprise decision. It is one of only two tools in this article that support dynamic SCORM, which makes it worth watching.
9. Gomo Learning
What it is. Gomo Learning is a cloud authoring tool built for responsive multi-device output, with built-in translation and collaborative authoring.
Best for. Teams whose priority is mobile-first responsive courses produced quickly across global teams.
Why it is in the second tier. Its 4.8 out of 5 rating rests on 2 reviews. Two reviews is not an evidence base, and we would not shortlist on that number alone.

| Convert an existing PowerPoint library into e-learning | iSpring Suite |
| Start at the lowest published per-author price | iSpring Suite |
| Publish one build as a course, a job aid, and a support page | dominKnow ONE |
| Deploy on-premises rather than in a vendor cloud | dominKnow ONE |
| Hold strict brand control across a large course library | Create by Confirm |
| Generate a first draft from existing documentation | Easygenerator or Mindsmith |

| Update a published course without an LMS re-upload | Easygenerator or Mindsmith |
When Articulate 360 remains the right choice
Articulate 360 stays the better option in several situations, and it is worth saying so plainly on a page like this one.
Storyline handles branching scenarios and software simulations with a depth few tools match. Articulate’s own pricing page lists over 1,000 templates and more than 20 million ready-to-use assets, which shortens production for design teams who build from scratch. Its 4.7 out of 5 from 789 reviews is the largest evidence base of any product mentioned in this article, and its user community is the biggest in the category, so recruiting an experienced author is easier than for any alternative here.
If your model concentrates course production in a small group of skilled instructional designers, and if your courses lean on complex interaction, staying put is a defensible call.
When Easygenerator is not the right choice
If you build software simulations from screen recordings, Adobe Captivate does that better. If your courses depend on custom variables, conditional logic, or pixel-level design control, Storyline and Lectora give you room. If you need offline desktop authoring, our cloud model rules us out. And if one instructional designer produces all your content, the distributed authoring that drives most of Easygenerator’s value goes unused, which makes the per-author comparison the only one that matters, and iSpring wins it.
How to move Articulate courses into another authoring tool
Existing courses do not have to block a switch. Easygenerator imports SCORM packages from Articulate and rebuilds them as editable content, so your team keeps the course structure and refines it rather than starting from an empty page. Most teams migrate in stages, and they begin with the courses that need updating anyway rather than with the whole library.
Language versions deserve the same staged treatment. Jon Withrington, Global Customer and Capability Education Manager at Keune Haircosmetics, made the point in our March 2026 webinar on localization at scale.
Global Customer and Capability Education Manager, Keune Haircosmetics
“I would pick maybe three or four key languages, and think strategically about this.”
The same logic applies to the migration itself. Pick the courses that carry the most change, move those first, and leave stable content where it is until its next review cycle.
Final thoughts
Articulate 360 built its position on depth of control, and that depth still earns its price for teams with dedicated instructional designers. The alternatives in this article matter for a different reason. Each one moves a different part of the equation, whether that is who creates content, how updates reach the LMS, or how many languages you maintain without duplicating the work.
Start from which Articulate product you actually use. Storyline, Rise, or the whole suite each point at a different shortlist, and getting that question right saves more time than any feature comparison.
