Key takeaways
- Leadership roleplay is about the hardest conversations a manager has. Performance reviews, difficult feedback, pay conversations, and layoffs are the scenarios most tools in this comparison focus on.
- Your own leadership framework matters more than a generic script. EasyCoach, Exec, Yoodli, and Tenor let you practice and score against the way your company leads, while Skillsoft CAISY starts from a ready-made library and LinkedIn Learning pairs ready-made scenarios with custom ones built in LinkedIn Learning Hub.
- Only a few tools pair AI practice with human coaches. Coachello and CoachHub combine AI roleplay with certified coaches, and Mursion uses trained specialists who voice its avatars live.
- EasyCoach is the only tool here built into a dedicated e-learning authoring platform. L&D teams can build the leadership course and the matching roleplay from the same documents, at a flat fee. EducateMe, Skillsoft, and LinkedIn Learning also pair roleplay with courses, as part of an LMS or content library.
Why managers need AI roleplay practice
AI roleplay is software that plays the other person in a conversation, so a manager can rehearse a performance review or a hard piece of feedback before it happens for real. The AI reacts to what the manager says and scores the attempt.
Most managers never get that practice. Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace 2025 report found that less than half of the world’s managers, 44%, say they have received management training. Its 2026 report found that manager engagement then fell from 27% to 22% in 2025, the largest year-over-year drop it recorded. AI roleplay gives every manager a place to rehearse, not only the few who get a coach.
It also changes what senior leaders spend their time on. “Leadership stopped being asked to run every single repetition of roleplay,” says William Salm, Learning and Development Specialist at Equity Trust Company, after his team moved practice into EasyCoach. “Instead, what they got to do is review the outputs, look at the data, and that’s a fraction of the time and a much higher value use of their attention.”
How we evaluated AI roleplay tools for leadership training
We scored each tool on four criteria, which run through the comparison table and every full entry below. Here is what High, Medium, and Low mean for each.
Practice realism. High means voice practice with an AI counterpart whose emotional stance you can set, such as defensive, dismissive, or accepting. Medium means voice or text practice with a reactive AI counterpart, without documented behavior settings. Low means text-only or scripted branching practice.
Scenario setup and upkeep. High means your own team builds and updates scenarios from its own material, with no vendor involvement required. Medium means custom scenarios are vendor-led, in preview, or not documented as self-serve. Low means a fixed library only.
Feedback and progress tracking. High means each attempt is scored against criteria or a framework you set, with progress tracked per manager across attempts. Medium means feedback on vendor-defined dimensions, or progress tracking that is not documented. Low means no scoring.
Access and cost. High means a free plan, a free trial, or published pricing you can start without a sales call. Medium means a custom quote with a documented pricing model, such as a flat fee, credits, a published per-seat price, or a content license. Low means a custom quote with no documented pricing model.
Low is not a failing grade. It describes what a tool does, and a Low on one criterion can sit next to a High on another.

What we deliberately did not score
We did not test speech accuracy or response speed ourselves, so run one of your own leadership scenarios through each tool before you decide. We also left out AI coaching tools that give advice without a roleplay mode, and human coaching platforms such as BetterUp, which we compare in EasyCoach vs. BetterUp and cover in our enterprise coaching platforms comparison.
Three kinds of AI roleplay tools for leadership, and which one your team needs
Answer one question first. Do you want managers to practice your company’s own way of leading, or a general best practice?

All G2 ratings and review counts in this table were verified in October 2026. Ratings for EasyCoach and Skillsoft CAISY cover the whole Easygenerator and Percipio platforms, not the roleplay feature alone. G2 counts move in both directions as reviews are added and removed, so figures on pages published earlier may differ.
Roleplay you build yourself
1. EasyCoach
EasyCoach is Easygenerator’s AI roleplay tool, sold standalone or bundled with an Easygenerator plan. Managers practice by voice or text against an AI counterpart that pushes back, hesitates, and changes the subject, in scenarios built from your own leadership material.
EasyCoach is the only tool here built into a dedicated e-learning authoring platform. Your L&D team can build the leadership course in Easygenerator, then build the matching feedback or performance review roleplay from the same framework documents. The manager result at Equity Trust Company shows what that frees up. Sales managers there spent close to 15 hours a week running practice roleplays with new hires, and after the team moved that practice into EasyCoach, it dropped to about 5 hours a week, with managers reviewing results instead of playing the customer.
Practice realism
High. Authors set the AI character’s attitude, such as skeptical, cooperative, or defensive, along with its personality and tone. Managers practice by voice or text, in more than 70 languages.
Scenario setup and upkeep
High. Authors upload their own documents, such as a feedback model or a performance review guide, and AI turns them into a roleplay.
Feedback and progress tracking
High. Every session is scored against criteria your team defines, and every attempt is tracked so managers and L&D see where skills are improving. Each organization decides whether reviewers see full sessions or only an aggregate skill score, which matters for sensitive leadership practice.
Access and cost
Medium. A flat fee with unlimited roleplays, sessions, and learners. Pricing is not published, so contact sales for a quote.
Pros
- The leadership course and the roleplay live in the same platform
- Settings that can limit reviewers to aggregate scores, so managers can practice without every attempt being reviewed
Cons
- No ready-made library of leadership scenarios
- No published pricing
- Its G2 rating covers the whole Easygenerator platform, not EasyCoach alone
Best for
- L&D teams at enterprises with 1,000 or more employees that have their own leadership model
- Multilingual manager programs
- Organizations that train managers and other roles in one tool
G2 rating. 4.7 out of 5 from 192 reviews, for the whole Easygenerator platform.

When EasyCoach is not the right fit
EasyCoach is our product, so here is where we would point you elsewhere. If you want a large library of leadership scenarios on day one rather than building from your own framework, choose Tenor or Skillsoft CAISY. If your program depends on certified human coaches, choose Coachello or CoachHub. And if a live human counterpart matters more than on-demand practice, Mursion is built for that.
When Tenor is the better fit
Tenor is the stronger choice when a manager program covers only leadership and needs to start fast. More than 150 pre-built scenarios, from conflict to layoffs, mean managers can practice in the first week, and its AI coach meets them in Slack and Microsoft Teams between sessions. For an enterprise that wants a leadership specialist rather than a general roleplay tool, that focus is the point.
The hard part of leadership roleplay is keeping it honest
Managers practice hard conversations best when a bad attempt stays private. If every fumbled performance review lands on a dashboard their own boss reads, managers stop practicing the scenarios they need most.
Three habits keep practice honest. Decide before launch who sees full sessions and who sees only aggregate scores. Score against your own leadership model, so feedback matches what managers hear in training. And tie practice to the moments it matters, such as assigning the performance review scenario a few weeks before review cycles open.
Tools handle this differently. EasyCoach lets each organization choose between full-session visibility and aggregate scores only. Coachello shows HR aggregated insights while keeping individual sessions confidential. Exec gates practice with minimum scores before review cycles, Yoodli gives team leads a dashboard of each manager’s attempts, and Tenor shows progress across teams.
Final thoughts
Choose by whose leadership model you want managers to practice. If your company has its own, pick a tool your L&D team can build scenarios in from that model. If you want to start from a library, pick a leadership specialist or the learning platform you already license. Either way, run your managers’ hardest conversation through two or three tools and check what each one lets you see, and what it keeps private.
