Key takeaways
- Most AI roleplay tools were built for sales ramp first. Hyperbound, Outdoo AI, FullyRamped, and Quantified train reps for discovery calls and objections. Onboarding for managers, support staff, or operations roles needs a tool that lets you build scenarios for any role.
- Readiness tracking matters more in onboarding than scoring alone. A single score tells you how one attempt went. Onboarding needs to show when a new hire is ready, and Mindtickle, Second Nature AI, Yoodli, EducateMe, Outdoo AI, and EasyCoach all track progress for each person across repeated attempts.
- Pricing transparency is better than in most categories. Yoodli, Hyperbound, and Outdoo AI offer free plans, and EducateMe publishes its prices. Mindtickle, SymTrain, and Second Nature ask for a sales call.
- EasyCoach is the only tool here built into a dedicated e-learning authoring platform. L&D teams can build the onboarding course and the matching roleplay from the same documents, at a flat fee. Second Nature, Mindtickle, and EducateMe also offer course creation, as part of a practice, enablement, or learning management platform.
Why new hires need AI roleplay practice
AI roleplay is software that plays the other person in a conversation, so a new hire can rehearse a customer call, a first one-to-one, or a hard question before it happens for real. The AI reacts and scores the attempt. Pitch recording tools, where a new hire records a video answer that is scored afterward, are not roleplay in this sense, because nobody talks back.
Most onboarding still leaves new hires underprepared for those conversations. In a 2018 article on its onboarding research, Gallup reported that only 12% of employees strongly agree their organization does a great job of onboarding (Gallup, 2018). In a 2021 article, Gallup reported that only 29% of new hires feel fully prepared and supported to excel in their role after onboarding, and put the time new employees need to reach peak performance at around 12 months (Gallup, 2021). AI roleplay shortens the part of that curve that depends on practice, because a new hire can rehearse as often as needed without waiting for a manager’s free hour.
How we evaluated AI roleplay tools for onboarding
We scored each tool on four criteria, which run through the comparison table and every full entry below. Here is what High, Medium, and Low mean for each.
Practice realism. High means voice practice with an AI counterpart that reacts to what the new hire says, plus practice inside a copy of the new hire’s own systems. Medium means voice or text practice with a reactive AI counterpart, without full system simulation. Low means text-only or scripted branching practice.
Scenario setup and upkeep. High means your own team builds and updates scenarios from its own material in a no-code tool, with no vendor involvement required. Medium means vendor-led setup, a reported rollout of two months or more, or self-serve building that is not documented. Low means scenarios depend on vendor services.
Feedback and readiness tracking. High means each attempt is scored against criteria you set, with progress or readiness tracked per new hire across attempts. Medium means each attempt is scored on vendor-defined dimensions, or readiness tracking is not documented. Low means no scoring.
Access and cost. High means a free plan, a free trial, or published pricing you can start without a sales call. Medium means a custom quote with a documented pricing model, such as a flat fee, credits, or per-seat estimates. Low means a custom quote with no documented pricing model.
Low is not a failing grade. It describes what a tool does, and a Low on one criterion can sit next to a High on another in the same entry.
Ownership disclosure
EasyCoach is our own product, and Easygenerator publishes this article. The other eleven tools were reviewed independently, from G2 profiles and each vendor’s own published documentation. All G2 figures were verified in October 2026.
What we deliberately did not score
We did not test speech accuracy or response speed ourselves, so run one of your own onboarding scenarios through each tool before you decide.
We gave full entries to six tools and short entries to six more. We left out several tools you may have seen elsewhere.
- WorkRamp uses AI reviewers to score recorded pitch certifications, which is pitch recording rather than live roleplay (ToolMage)
- Trainual documents processes and walks new hires through them, without AI roleplay
- HR onboarding software, such as tools for paperwork, task lists, and IT access, handles the logistics of a first week rather than skills practice

Conversation practice you build yourself
1. EasyCoach
EasyCoach is Easygenerator’s AI roleplay tool, sold standalone or bundled with an Easygenerator plan. Teams build a scenario from their own documents, and new hires practice it by voice or text against an AI counterpart that pushes back, hesitates, and changes the subject.
EasyCoach is the only tool here built into a dedicated e-learning authoring platform. Your L&D team can build the onboarding course in Easygenerator, then build the matching roleplay from the same source documents, for any role.
William Salm, Learning and Development Specialist at Equity Trust Company, uses EasyCoach to prepare new hires in sales and support roles for real client calls. Before, every practice repetition needed a manager in the room. William built more than 70 roleplays in a couple of months, and he sequences them from simple calls to resistant callers and edge cases. Manager coaching time dropped from about 15 hours a week to about 5, and new hires now reach call-ready status in 4 to 5 weeks instead of 8 (Equity Trust Company customer story). Odido, the Dutch telecom provider, also runs EasyCoach scenarios in hiring assessments for customer operations roles (Odido customer story).
Practice realism
Medium. New hires practice by voice or text with an AI counterpart that reacts to what they say. Roleplays run in more than 70 languages, and a 2026 update made 40 of them newly voice enabled (Easygenerator product update). EasyCoach has no system simulation.
Scenario setup and upkeep
High. Authors upload their own documents, and AI turns them into a roleplay. William Salm builds a new roleplay in under an hour once he has scripts and examples ready.
Feedback and readiness tracking
High. Every session is scored against criteria your team defines, and every attempt is tracked so managers see where skills are improving across the team. Each organization decides whether managers see full sessions or only an aggregate skill score (EasyCoach).
Access and cost
Medium. EasyCoach charges a flat fee with unlimited roleplays, sessions, and learners, so cost does not rise as you hire. Pricing is not published, so contact sales for a quote.
Pros
- The onboarding course and the roleplay live in the same platform
- Scenarios for any role, not only sales or support
- Customer stories from Equity Trust Company and Odido
Cons
- No ready-made library of sales methodology scorecards
- Its G2 rating covers the whole Easygenerator platform, not EasyCoach alone
Best for
- L&D teams at enterprises with 1,000 or more employees that onboard many roles
- Multilingual onboarding programs
- Organizations that hire in waves and want cost to stay flat
- Teams where subject-matter experts create onboarding content
G2 rating. 4.7 out of 5 from 192 reviews, for the whole Easygenerator platform.

Pros
- 63 G2 reviews behind a 4.8 rating

- Onboarding for roles where tone and confidence matter most
- Teams that want to test before they buy
- Programs that pair practice with short concept lessons
G2 rating. 4.8 out of 5 from 63 reviews.

When EasyCoach is not the right fit
EasyCoach is our product, so here is where we would point you elsewhere. If you only onboard sellers and want buyer personas and methodology scorecards ready on day one, choose a sales ramp tool such as Hyperbound or Outdoo AI. If you onboard contact center agents who must learn their desktop tools during practice, choose SymTrain or Zenarate, because EasyCoach does not replicate those systems. And if you want one enterprise suite that ties onboarding practice to quota and ramp reporting, Mindtickle is built for that.
When Hyperbound remains the right choice
Hyperbound is the stronger choice whenever the new hires are sellers. Its AI buyers come from your ideal customer profile, a free tier with 45 prebuilt roleplays lets a manager test it before any budget conversation (Hyperbound pricing), and its 4.9 rating on G2 is one of the highest here. G2’s August 2025 review summary notes its AI buyers can feel too aggressive for beginners, but for a sales team that wants new reps ready for real prospects fast, that intensity is often the point.
The hard part of onboarding roleplay is knowing when someone is ready
Scoring one attempt is easy. Knowing when a new hire is ready to take real calls, run a first one-to-one, or handle a customer alone is the hard part.
Gallup reported in 2018 that when managers take an active role in onboarding, employees are 3.4 times as likely to strongly agree their onboarding was exceptional (Gallup, 2018). AI roleplay does not replace that role. It changes where a manager’s time goes, from playing the customer to reviewing scores and coaching the gaps, as the Equity Trust Company example above shows.
Three habits make readiness visible. Define what ready means for each role before you build the first scenario. Sequence scenarios from easy to hard, so progress shows up as a new hire moves through them. And set a score or a number of passed scenarios as the gate for real work, then check it against how new hires actually perform in their first weeks.
Tools handle this differently. Mindtickle ties practice scores to ramp and quota data. Second Nature and FullyRamped issue certifications. EasyCoach, EducateMe, and Yoodli track scores across attempts for each person. Outdoo AI shows each rep’s session history on a per-rep dashboard and compares practice with real call scores, and Hyperbound scores real calls once new hires go live.
Final thoughts
Choose by the roles you onboard. If you onboard many roles, pick a tool your L&D team can build scenarios in for all of them, from content it already owns. If you only onboard sellers or contact center agents, a specialist tool will be ready faster. Either way, build your new hires’ hardest conversation in two or three tools and check how each one shows you when someone is ready.
