RICOH’s L&D team needed a scalable and efficient way to create, manage, and track training across its global workforce. Easygenerator and Cornerstone provided the perfect combination: Easygenerator for fast and collaborative course creation and Cornerstone for automated learning management and compliance tracking.

Ron Schellevis, Director of Learning Design and Technology, plays a key role in shaping RICOH’s learning strategy. With nearly 30 years of experience in their L&D team, Ron oversees learning content and training processes across the organization. To do this, his team relies on Easygenerator for content creation and Cornerstone as their LMS.

Key results

  • Delivered 4x more training content without growing the L&D team
  • Avoided hiring additional headcount to meet training demand
  • Reduced content creation time compared to Adobe Captivate
  • Enabled employees to create e-learning content themselves
  • Shifted the L&D team’s focus to strategy and quality control

Scaling global training without growing the L&D team

Challenges

  • Need to deliver role-specific training globally
  • Growing demand without increasing L&D headcount
  • Inconsistent tracking of learning progress across multiple LMSs
  • Limited visibility into compliance and completion data
  • High cost of translating training into multiple languages

RICOH’s L&D team faced four key challenges in training their global workforce. First, employees across multiple regions needed role-specific training, but meeting these demands was difficult. Second, tracking learning progress was inconsistent because RICOH used several different LMSs across Europe. Third, delivering training to their global workforce required translating materials into multiple languages, which was time-consuming and costly.

Finally, content creation was slowing the team down. Ron’s team relied on PowerPoint to create and manage training content, which made the process inefficient. “Until 2016, we were using PowerPoint with online quizzes to assess learners,” Ron shared.

Combining Easygenerator and Cornerstone to scale training

RICOH introduced Easygenerator as its primary course authoring tool and consolidated multiple LMSs into Cornerstone to simplify training across the organization.

As training demands increased, relying solely on the L&D team to develop content became unsustainable. Since employees had the needed expertise, RICOH used Easygenerator to decentralize course creation and enable employees across the company to create their own e-learning content. This shift allowed the L&D team to focus on organizational strategies and quality control rather than building every course from scratch.

EasyTranslate has also made collaboration easier. It allowed Ron’s team to reduce dependency on external language services while co-authoring made it easy for the team members to refine the content. “Translation is a nightmare in a multinational company,” says Ron. “With Easygenerator, I can make someone a co-author, and they can correct translations at no extra cost.”

On the LMS side, Cornerstone provided the structure and automation to manage learners and track their progress. One of Ron’s favorite features is dynamic learning assignments: “A new employee joins RICOH, and Cornerstone automatically assigns them the right training based on their role, location, or department,” Ron explains. “It makes compliance and onboarding so much easier to manage.”

“If I had to produce the same amount of e-learning without Easygenerator, my team would need to be 4x bigger.”

Results of scaling training with a small L&D team

Since implementing Easygenerator and Cornerstone, RICOH has transformed its learning approach. Without Easygenerator, Ron estimates that his team would need to be 4x larger to produce the same training content.

At the same time, “creating the same content in Adobe Captivate takes 4x longer,” Ron shared. “With Easygenerator, anyone can quickly develop content that looks good and gets the job done.”

Cornerstone has also significantly reduced the L&D team’s manual workload. “Cornerstone’s backend infrastructure is great,” says Ron. “We can automatically assign training, track compliance, and report on learning progress in one place.”

By combining Easygenerator’s intuitive course creation with Cornerstone’s structured learning management, RICOH has built a scalable L&D ecosystem. With both tools working together, Ron’s team can focus on strategy and innovation rather than being slowed down by manual training requests.

How RICOH scaled training without adding headcount

RICOH’s L&D team took a structured approach to rolling out Easygenerator and Cornerstone. To keep up with growing training needs, they encouraged employees across the organization to contribute to training, reducing the reliance on instructional designers.

Ron’s team set up guidelines and best practices for employees to maintain quality, ensuring that courses met company standards before publication. Collaboration features like real-time co-authoring allowed L&D professionals to step in as advisors, helping employees refine their content without taking over the creation process entirely.

For training management, RICOH used Cornerstone’s dynamic learning assignments to automate onboarding and compliance training. Employees automatically receive the right training when they join the company or move into a new position using role-based learning paths.

Translation was another key focus area for RICOH. To ensure training was accessible for their global workforce, the L&D team used EasyTranslate, which lets local teams refine and adapt content. This approach allowed them to scale training across multiple countries without relying on costly external translation services.
