Magsaysay Group, a global leader in maritime and people-resources services, supports 75,000+ seafarers worldwide and 5,000+ staff members. Headquartered in Manila, Philippines, the company provides recruitment, training, and management solutions that help its partners in the shipping and logistics industry operate safely and efficiently.
To meet the training needs of thousands of seafarers around the world, Magsaysay built a digital learning platform called JumpIn, powered by Cornerstone. When the L&D team needed to speed up course creation and keep up with growing demand, they turned to Easygenerator. The result was faster course creation, down from 8 weeks to just 2 weeks, saving 6 years of work and helping the team deliver learning at scale with consistent quality.
Mico, L&D Supervisor, explained: “Before Easygenerator, producing a course could take 2 months. Now we can do it in 2 weeks, and that’s a big shift for our team.”
Today, Magsaysay’s L&D department creates digital learning for both internal employees and thousands of seafarers working with its maritime clients. Easygenerator and Cornerstone help the team make learning available anywhere, at any time, to support career growth for every learner, whether on land or at sea.
Challenges
For years, Magsaysay’s L&D team faced a clear challenge. Seafarers spend up to 9 months at sea and only 3 months on shore each year. That limited time on land made classroom-based training difficult. “If you ask the seafarers to come to training during their vacation time, that’s a big source of conflict because they want to spend time with their families,” Lai, L&D Director, explained.
Progression in the maritime industry depends on continuous learning. Without completing the required training, many seafarers stay in the same position for years. “That’s not our vision for our seafarers. We want to see them grow and build their careers,” Lai said. The challenge was to make training available anytime and anywhere, without cutting into family or rest time.
In 2020, the L&D department began building JumpIn, a digital learning platform designed to make training accessible online. The goal was to move away from classroom sessions and provide self-paced learning. But the team quickly realized that creating digital content at scale would be another challenge.
“We started with zero, no structure, no digital courses,” Lai recalled. “We had to build everything from the ground up.” The L&D team had instructional designers and IT developers, but creating high-quality e-learning for 75,000 seafarers using traditional tools was slow. Demand from clients and internal teams kept growing faster than they could deliver.
To improve efficiency, Magsaysay combined two platforms: Cornerstone for learning management and Easygenerator for course creation.
Cornerstone gave structure for hosting, assigning, and tracking learning, while Easygenerator helped the design team create content quickly. Lai shared that the course recommendation feature in Cornerstone made learning more personal and engaging. “It suggests courses not just based on a person’s position, but also on the skills they want to develop. It encourages people to take ownership of their learning.”
The L&D team valued the support from both partners. “We’re very happy with Cornerstone’s support,” Lai said. “We don’t wait long for answers. If our questions are complex, we get a coaching session within the week.” Easygenerator also made a strong impression. Mico shared: “Because Easygenerator is so easy to use, we didn’t need much support after onboarding. The setup was fast, and we were creating content in just a week.”
With both tools in place, Magsaysay could focus on creating engaging courses instead of spending weeks on formatting or coding. “Easygenerator guides you step by step,” Mico said. “The prompts help you focus on the outcomes and objectives, so the content stays aligned to what learners need.”
“If we stick to the same L&D practice, it would take us about 8.5 years to finish all of our priority courses. Now, it’s 2.1 years.”
When one of Magsaysay’s clients challenged the team to match 32 courses from a competing platform within 1.5 weeks, Lai and her team knew they had to act fast. “If I hadn’t seen Easygenerator in action, I would have said it was impossible,” she said. With only 3 instructional designers and 1.5 weeks to deliver, the team created all 32 courses. That effort won them a major new client.
“My team worked nights and weekends,” Lai said. “But with Easygenerator, it was possible. It saved our jobs.” The client’s feedback confirmed their success. Compared to the competitor’s library, Magsaysay’s new courses were more relevant, more scenario-based, and more engaging. “They told us our courses felt real, something their people could relate to,” Lai said.
Before Easygenerator, each course took an average of 8 weeks to complete. Even when they worked faster, the team could only reduce that to 4 weeks, which was still too slow. With Easygenerator, they can now produce a course in just 2 weeks, a 4x improvement in productivity.
A study made by Mico showed even greater results. To complete their full backlog of priority courses using their old methods, Magsaysay would have needed 8.5 years. With Easygenerator, that timeline shrank to 2.1 years, saving more than 6 years of work. Lai smiled as she shared, “I’ll retire in less than 6 years. Without Easygenerator, I wouldn’t have seen the day we finished all our courses. Now, it’s possible.”

The benefits went beyond speed. Easygenerator made it easier for the team to create scenario-based courses, which had been difficult before. “Before Easygenerator, we were only producing a few scenario-based courses because it was hard to manage all the branching,” Mico said. “To create one in 2 months was already a good job at that time. But now things are changing.”
Cornerstone’s course recommendations also encouraged more employees to keep learning. Lai shared that course completions and voluntary learning have gone up. “I’m a believer in person-driven learning,” she said. “For learning to be effective, you have to want it.”
By creating courses faster, the team can spend more time refining content and making sure each lesson reflects real experiences from seafarers and instructors. Lai shared that this balance of speed and quality helps them keep learning practical and engaging for everyone.
While Easygenerator is now the main tool for creating courses, the L&D team still uses Articulate for projects that need detailed visuals or complex interactivity. “With Articulate, we can be more artistic and interactive, but it takes more time,” said Mico. “If it’s a rush project, we prefer to use Easygenerator. It’s a great help for us.”
This balance lets the team use each tool for what it does best. Articulate supports complex visual courses, while Easygenerator allows scalable creation. “When we’re not pressed for time, the artist in us can come out with Articulate. But when deadlines are tight, we turn to Easygenerator,” Mico explained.
The instructional designers often combine both tools in one workflow. They’re now looking to start course outlines and structure in Easygenerator, then enhance them with visuals in Articulate for certain courses. “We’re still finding the sweet spot between both tools,” Mico said. “But together, they help us create better learning experiences faster.”
Magsaysay’s vision is to help every employee and seafarer become more confident with technology. “My dream before I retire is to see Magsaysay people become digitally literate and unafraid of AI,” Lai said. “We want them to know how to make technology work for them.”
With Cornerstone and Easygenerator in place, that vision is within reach. The team plans to keep improving its digital learning ecosystem, exploring new ways to create and share learning faster.
Lai summed up the journey: “Easygenerator helped us keep up with demand and meet our goals. But what makes me proud is seeing how our people have grown. We learned to do more, to work smarter, and to keep moving forward.”
Magsaysay uses Easygenerator to create digital courses quickly and Cornerstone to host, assign, and track them. Together, they make learning accessible to 75,000 seafarers anytime, anywhere.
The team now creates courses 4x faster and saved more than 6 years of work. They also won a new client after producing 32 courses in just 1.5 weeks.
JumpIn is Magsaysay’s digital learning platform built on Cornerstone. It helps seafarers access self-paced training and grow their careers even while working at sea.
Easygenerator enables quick outcomes-based course creation, while Cornerstone manages and recommends training to learners. This combination makes learning both efficient and personalized.
The team uses Easygenerator for scalable training and Articulate for courses that need detailed visuals or interactivity. Using both helps them balance speed with creativity.
