Easygenerator 8.3 is officially released. Our free edition is part of this release but there is a lot more. This blog covers the highlights of this release.
Free eLearning authoring software edition
We are very exited about the release of the free edition. Maybe the greatest thing is that it isn’t really a separate edition, in easygenerator terms we added another ‘user role’. This means that all future changes and new functionalities will automatically be available to users of the free edition too!
Course developers perspective
A very important improvement is that it is now possible to copy/cut/paste page elements within one page as well as between pages. This means you can now reuse pages and page elements through all of your courses! We also improved align features for page elements. The workflow tasks process is improved.
We added the possibility to add navigation rules based on question score, enabling you to create even more refined branched courses. You can now also exclude questions, question pools and chapters from the table of content of the course and we made it easier to see all the references from the page (reuse, hyperlinks, copied pages) in the page properties.
We adjusted the preview function. Based on various requests from customers it will now start with the active page in preview mode.
We added HTML markup to hotspot page element message that will be displayed in a pop-up. Giving you more options here for design and interactions.
We improved the search facilities within a course, it is now possible to search on parts of a word and the result page is improved as well.
In order to give more flexibility in building adaptive paths in your LMS, we included information about learning objectives into the SCORM package. This means that (if your LMS supports this, you can now create adaptive paths based on the learning objectives and their outcome.
LMS platforms handle the Launch and Finish of a course in a different way. This makes it hard to control the behaviour of the course after finishing. Now, with the ‘Try to close browser window on finish‘ publishing option, you can choose whether a course should try to close a browser window it is running in after a learner has finished.
Custom fonts used in the masterpage template style sheets are included into the published package in order to enable CSS 3 @font-face feature support.
Page and content links to the question pages are now also published to QTI.
We created a webservice that will allow automated generation of accounts. We already use this service for the registration and activation of free edition users, it will also be implemented for trial accounts and in a webshop for the subscription version.
We pay attention to performance, stability and security in every release. Most of the times this is not visible to the users but this time there is an obvious change. We raised the password requirements to a higher level.
A very big change is that we moved to a new technology for creating master pages. We switched from asp.net to MVC. In version 8.3 there are two Master pages available that are created in the new technology (the default and the Adaptive master page). The old ASP.net master page will still function. The MVC technique will allow you to create even better master pages for your courses and you can develop them faster as well. Another change concerning master pages is that you are now able to up and download master page files. This way it is easier to adjust them.
We already started work on the next release. We have releases planned for December, March and June. We always appreciate feed back from our users, so all ideas and suggestions for improvements or new functionality are welcome, just mail us at[email protected].
